January 4th: PGA DFS DraftKings Round 2 Showdown Advice
By Chris Brent
Welcome back readers of FantasyCPR. We are back with more golf content breaking down the DraftKings PGA DFS showdown slate for round 2 at Sentry Tournament of Champions. It was good to have golf back yesterday, was able to watch some of it, followed a bunch of it on the live shot tracker.
Most of the industry does not cover PGA DFS showdown slates as well as we could, and I am not going to promise an article for every showdown slate. However, if I am playing the slate, you will be reading my content.
Golf is back! Let’s dive into the slate.
PGA DFS – The Plays:
Dustin Johnson, ($10,700)
The highest priced golfer on the slate, but for good reason as he completely destroyed this course yesterday. Dustin Johnson had 7 birdies to just one bogey yesterday. Dustin Johnson dominates this course because of his ability to score on the par 5’s. On the four par 5’s on this course he birdied all four of them yesterday and I think we can expect similar results tomorrow. Dustin currently sits at 6-under par for the tournament which is second place. Tomorrow I am expecting Dustin Johnson to take the lead in this tournament.
Marc Leishman ($8,700)
We played a bunch of Leishman yesterday due to the fact that wind would be such a strong factor in this event and the fact that Leishman is one of the best wind players on the tour. According to weather forecast, the wind is even going to be worse than it was yesterday and Leishman thrived. Leishman’s carded 5 birdies, an eagle and a double bogey to finish 5-under for the first round. I look for Leishman to build on this performance on a day that could demand his wind experience. Leishman dominated the par 5’s scoring 4-under on the par 5’s.
Jason Day ($8,200)
I just don’t understand this price for Jason Day. Day is way too cheap on this slate where he was dominate yesterday, carding 6 birdies and 2 bogeys. Day is also a strong wind player, I expect him to be popular, especially at this price tomorrow. However, I think we have to play him for the upside that he offers. Day is capable of getting hot with the putter at any point in this tournament and running away with this event. I do not want to miss out on it.
Bubba Watson ($7,000)
Originally Bubba Watson sort of worried me with this tournament, I just wasn’t sure how committed Watson would be to competing in this tournament. Bubba has certain tracks that he plays really well and when he isn’t on those tracks he struggles. However, Bubba is priced way too low on this slate for the amount of scoring that he can do. Bubba has the ability to eagle all four of the par 5s at any round. Today Bubba was able to card an eagle, 4 birdies and 3 bogeys. I want guys on showdown slates that can score eagles, because the points rack up a lot quicker. Watson is an excellent play tomorrow and his price is way too low. Putting is the one draw back, hopefully he can make some for us tomorrow. Bubba lost three strokes putting yesterday, these numbers should normalize in round 2.
PGA DFS – Fade:
Kevin Tway ($7,200)
Tway is the leader in this event, imagine he is going to be pretty popular at only $7,200 on a showdown slate, however I just can’t see him putting all four rounds together against this competition level. I do not expect Tway to just downward spiral this event and shoot 6-over tomorrow or anything like that. However, if I have to pick someone to fade tomorrow it’s him at increased ownership. I am playing 20-lineups so I will likely land on Tway in a few lineups just in case, but I will be under the field on Tway tomorrow.
Best of Luck on the PGA DraftKings Showdown Slate. Enjoy watching round 2 of the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
