NHL DFS Man Advantage Saturday January 5th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to another edition of NHL DFS Man Advantage for Saturday night January 5th! Tonight is yet another 7 game slate with a couple of teams on the second night of a back to back (Columbus and Nashville) that both have goaltenders in good spots.
We get Tampa and their high-powered virtually unstoppable offense in San Jose, also we have Toronto hosting Vancouver on the last game of a 6 game road trip. Another red-hot team, the Islanders, travel to St. Louis to take on the last place Blues. All on tonight’s NHL DFS slate.
NHL DFS Goalies:
Andrei Vasilevskiy ($8,200) is the highest priced goalie tonight and with good reason. Vasilevskiy has not suffered a regulation loss (OT loss to WPG on 12/16) since he came back from injury on 12/13. In the first two games of this west coast trip against Anaheim and LA Vasilevskiy allowed a total of 3 goals.
I also like who ever ends up starting for Nashville and Columbus. I am thinking one or both these teams start their backups on the second night of a back to back since both Pekka Rinne and Sergei Bobrovsky started Friday night.
Michael Hutchinson ($8,100) is a GPP target for me starting for Toronto against the Canucks. Hutchinson was recently acquired by Toronto from Florida and will be making his second straight start for the Leafs against the road weary Canucks.
Mikko Koskinen ($7,900) should get the nod in goal for the Oilers against the LA Kings on Saturday night. After 4 straight losses for Koskinen he finally record a win, stopping 29 of 30 shots against for the win against Arizona.
NHL DFS Top Individual Players
High Tier:
Connor McDavid ($8,000) McDavid comes into Saturday nights game with five straight games with multiple points. Over his last 10 games McDavid is averaging 6.1 FPPG while scoring 7 times and adding 13 assists. Pairing McDavid with Leon Draisaitl ($6,200) is something I am going to try to fit into my lineups. Draisaitl comes in riding his own 4 game multi point streak.
Mitch Marner ($7400) Marner has 9 goals and 5 assists in the Maple Leafs last 8 games. In 20 home games this season Marner has 27 points and is averaging and is averaging 4.9 FPPG. Marner and linemate John Tavares make for another good high tier mini stack
Mathew Barzal ($6,900) This is tier of streaks today with Barzal riding his own 6 game point streak totaling 11 points in that span. Barzal is the Islanders best player and is finally playing like it after a slow start to the season.
Mid Tier:
Joe Pavelski ($6,300) – Even though Vasilevskiy is my favorite goalie tonight doesn’t mean I think he gets a shut out tonight. Over his last 4 games Pavelski has 1 goal and 6 assists and averaging over 5 FPPG during that span. Pavelski is on the Sharks second line with Joe Thornton ($2,900) and Marcus Sorenson ($2,700) making them a nice value stack.
Victor Hedman ($5,700) – Hedman heads into San Jose tonight riding a 5 game assist streak totaling 6 assists in that span. Hedman is also averaging just under 5 FPPG during his 5 game assists streak. Aside from playing on the first D pair Hedman also captains the Lightning’s top PP unit as well.
Frank Vatrano ($4,700) – Vatrano and the Panthers get the Blue Jackets on the second night of a back to back which could result in a high scoring game with two of the top offenses in the NHL. Vatrano, Henrik Borgstrom and Mike Hoffman make up another affordable stack as well.
Value Tier:
Phillip Danault ($4,400) – Danault is quietly one of the hottest players in the league of late recording 5 goals and 3 assists in the Canadiens last 5 games.
Jordan Eberle ($3,600) – Eberle was taken off the IR by the Islanders on Friday and should be back in the lineup on Saturday night in St. Louis. Before his injury Eberle was starting to play well with 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 4 games before injury. He should slot back into the teams 1st line and 1st PP unit, but that will be seen after the morning skate on Saturday
Zach Bogosian ($3,300) Bogosian is not the offense juggernaut you usually look for in fantasy, but he does play a ton of minutes and rack up peripheral stats on occasion. In the Sabres last 5 games Bogosian has 10 shots on goal and 7 blocked shots.
