DraftKings NBA Main Picks January 6: Will Westbrook break his funk?
There are seven NBA games, which is quite a few for a Sunday. The main DraftKings NBA slate has the other four games, and it’s much harder to build a lineup here. We don’t have the same value as the early slate, but there is still some to be found.

The money line was a solid 278.25 DraftKings points. My best lineup was half a point under that. Failed value from Gerald Green and McConnell torpedoed the KD/Curry/Harden build.
The winning lineup was up a little to 350.25 DraftKings poitns. He built around Giannis, Randle, and Ben Simmons and got huge value out of Ibaka, Bogdan, and Jalen Brunson. He even survived T.J. and Furkan.

DraftKings NBA Point Guards:
Best Bets:
Russell Westbrook ($11,100): Westbrook had another somewhat disappointing performance, but he still was over 50 DraftKings points. Westbrook picked up 53.75 DraftKings points against the Wizards in the first meeting, but he played just 26 minutes! That’s approaching Giannis status there! Washington’s defense is awful, so a full game stack is appealing. The only issue is finding enough value to make is feasible.
Kemba Walker ($9,200): Walker hasn’t had a good game since sometime last year (it was against Washington on December 29th). In two games this year, Kemba has 49.75 DraftKings points combined. That’s not even close to value, and his price actually went up. The Suns are a mess, but not that big of a mess. Find the money for Westbrook, or choose a value pick. Walker is a Ponzi scheme that will steal your money tonight.
Honorable Mention:
Justise Winslow ($6,900): I find it hard to pay this much for most Miami players, but Dragic is still out and Winslow is still getting at least 32 minutes per game. Winslow has 66.25 DraftKings points in 62 minutes against Atlanta this year. If this game stays close, Winslow should even hit value at this price. However, there’s still blowout potential here.
Trae Young ($6,400): The Heat are the team that has brought out the best Trae Young has to offer so far in his young NBA career. Young has torched the Heat for 99.25 DraftKings points in just 62 minutes. There’s always a risk with Young since his hot and cold swings are very severe, often in the same game. Still, those numbers are very hard to ignore, especially on a short slate.
Dark Horses:
Tyler Johnson ($5,100): Johnson was a bit of a bust against the Wizards, but any time you play a guy that is scoring dependent, that can happen. Johnson hit just four of his 12 shots, which is a big reason why he came up short. Johnson only played the Hawks once earlier this year, but he did top 30 DraftKings points. I’ll take my lumps from Friday and go back to the well here. There is too much upside to pass up.
Devonte Graham ($3,800): The emergence of Graham has helped take some of the pressure (and DFS production) off of Kemba. Graham is playing big minutes with Jeremy Lamb out. In fact, he has played so well that Lamb may not have the stranglehold on the job when he gets back. Graham is making the case for more minutes regardless.
My pick: Westbrook(PG), Young(G), Graham(UTIL)
DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
Bradley Beal ($9,000): Okay, so this isn’t Harden with CP3 out, but Beal’s usage is a lot higher with Wall out. Satoransky has regressed against better teams, so even more of the scoring load is falling on Beal. He doesn’t quite have Harden’s scoring ability, but Beal still is a threat for 50 every time that he steps on the court and Wall doesn’t, no matter the opponent.
Victor Oladipo ($8,500): OIadipo was average against Toronto in the first meeting, but that was with Toronto at full strength. Lowry is still out, so Oladipo could have a lot more room to operate. He’s fine, by the way. Oladipo destroyed the Bulls to the tune of 59.75 DraftKings points in 37 minutes on Friday.
Honorable Mention:
Josh Richardson ($7,000): JRich has blasted Atlanta this year. He has 92.75 DraftKings points in 73 minutes against the Hawks. Young has managed to keep the game close, but Richardson has given Miami the wins. The biggest thing to take away though is that Richardson leads the Heat in minutes. He is the only one that averages 35 minutes per game on this team. You have to considering Richardson the most likely to hit value.
Bojan Bogdanovic ($5,500): Something can be said for being the most consistent Bogdanovic in the league. Bogdan has by far the most upside, but Bojan does nothing but hit value. Bojan has only been under 20 DraftKings points once since December 1st. That gives him a great floor for cash game play.
Dark Horses:
Dennis Schroder ($5,300): Every single Oklahoma City starter is in play tonight against the Wizards. You could probably talk me into playing the top three off the bench as well if price permitted and DraftKings didn’t have that archaic rule that makes us pick players from more than one game. Schroder is a strong value pick that allows you to stack both Westbrook and PG and stay in this game.
Mikal Bridges ($4,200): There are a lot of okay plays at this level, and Bridges is one of those. Most of the time, he’s just okay. However, Bridges has a lot of upside on a young team that is running their young players. He will get more minutes than most in this tier, and is usually more consistent with the numbers he puts up .
My pick: Schroder(SG)
DraftKings NBA Small Forwards:
Best Bets:
Paul George ($10,300): This is not a great matchup on paper, but I really don’t care. Dallas is the only team that has held George under 46 DraftKings points in the last 11 games. The biggest thing to take away from this is that Westbrook’s numbers really haven’t suffered all that much. Westy just isn’t hitting shots. Once he does, look out! I’m not worried about George’s usage falling off. I am worried that this is a much better matchup for Westbrook. If I’m only using one tonight, it’s going to be Westbrook.
Kawhi Leonard ($8,800): Indiana has allowed the least fantasy points to small forwards this year, but they were ravaged by Kawhi for 58 earlier this season. While Kawhi may not get quite that many this time around, I’m still on board using him for this price with Lowry out. This may be a tough matchup, but the high usage rate has me willing to overlook that here.
Honorable Mention:
T.J. Warren ($6,300): Warren has put up a couple of stink bombs here and there. You can say this for Warren. When he misses 30 DraftKings points, he misses spectacularly. Those moments are few and far between. Just know that if you are following the game at home, if Warren tops 16, you’re good for 30. It’s getting that first 15 out of the way that has been the issue at times.
Trevor Ariza ($5,900): The Wizards are easing Otto Porter back into action, and they can afford that luxury because of the beast Ariza has been. Ariza has at least 7x value twice in the last three games. I wouldn’t expect him quite that high against the Thunder, but Ariza is still a strong mid range play, and should be marginally safer than Green. Emphasis on should.
Dark Horses:
Deandre Bembry ($4,600): Bembry looks like the guy we want with Kent Bazemore out. Daniel Hamilton was a disaster on Friday, and Kevin Huerter has virtually no upside. Meanwhile, Bembry has five straight games with 22 or more DraftKings points. That’s certain 5x value. Bembry doesn’t have a lot of upside, but I would even consider him in GPP’s today because the minutes are going to be there with Bazemore out.
Dion Waiters ($3,500): That’s all the Heat need. Another wing player. They have trouble carving out minutes for the ones they have! This situation wont come to a head for a bit yet. Waiters played just 11 minutes in his season debut on Wednesday. So why consider him? Because Waiters took nine shots in those 11 minutes and put up a strong 14.5 DraftKings points. Waiters should see his minutes increase to around 15 here. There is still risk involved, but Waiters could hit 20 for a very low price. There is still quite a bit of risk though.
My pick: Leonard(SF)
DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
John Collins ($7,100): I do like the price on Collins here, but I also realize that he’s not going to put up big numbers against the Heat. 5x value is probably close to the ceiling for Collins in this game, so I understand the fade here. There is still a chance that he puts up big numbers though. The only reason they have been down lately is because Collins hasn’t been feeling well.
Domantas Sabonis ($6,800): Sabonis is going to put up strong numbers against the Raptors, but he’s still not starting. I am nervous about paying this price for someone that’s only going to play 28 minutes in this game at the most. It’s not like Toronto is a weak team up front either. Like Collins, this is probably pretty close to Sabonis’s ceiling tonight.
Honorable Mention:
Pascal Siakam ($6,500): Siakam ravaged the Bucks for 45 DraftKings points yesterday, his third time over 40 in the last three games. On top of that, Siakam went for 38.75 DraftKings points on the Pacers in the first meeting. This entire Toronto front has played well lately. I have no issue using all of them, including Kawhi.
Thaddeus Young ($5,600): Young isn’t explosive like Sabonis is, but he starts. Young has not been under 24 DraftKings in the last dozen games, so he is a high floor value play. His days of hitting 40 are probably over, but Young could still wind up in the 30’s here.
Dark Horse:
Jerami Grant ($4,600): Grant put up 39.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting with Washington this year. The Wizards are mostly healthy up front and they have added Ariza since then, so we may not see a big game from Grant. That said, he only needs 23 DraftKings points for 5x value. He should hit that with ease, and I would say Grant likely hits 6x value.
James Johnson ($4,400): Johnson is starting to routinely score in the 20’s for DraftKings points, so he is worth considering so long as he remains in the starting lineup. Johnson isn’t going to see the minutes that he did last year, so don’t expect any of those 50’s we saw on occasion last year. Johnson could still flirt with 30 though.
My pick: Siakam(PF), Grant(F)
DraftKings NBA Centers
Best Bets:
Deandre Ayton ($7,800): I expect ownership on Ayton to be practically non existent after Friday’s epic failure against the Clippers in what should have been a great spot. This spot looks even better, especially since Charlotte doesn’t have any size to try and slow him down. I expect a strong bounce back game from Ayton here.
Hassan Whiteside ($7,700): Whiteside was a total beast on Friday against Washington, and he gets a similarly tasty matchup against Atlanta here. Atlanta has more size, but size doesn’t always mean a lot. Whiteside is one of my favorite plays on the entire slate tonight. He could drop another 50 tonight.
Steven Adams ($7,400): We all saw what a struggling Whiteside did to this Washington front on Friday, right? If not, go check the game log. Then come back and lock in Adams. Washington isn’t going to be able to stop him either. The only thing that will stop Adams is the monster game brewing for Westbrook.

Honorable Mention:
Serge Ibaka ($6,200): Ibaka missed the first meeting with Indiana, and if I were going to choose one Toronto guy to not hit value against this front, it would probably be Ibaka. Turner has been better defensively this year, and his size is going to be an issue for Ibaka.
Thomas Bryant ($5,800): The news that Markieff Morris will be out several weeks means Bryant’s run isn’t over just yet. However, Bryant still has problems form time to time. He had no answer for Whiteside, so I’m worried that Adams could eat him alive too. The price is solid, but I feel this is a pretty big risk.
Dark Horses:
Dewayne Dedmon ($5,200): Dedmon has the size to tangle with Whiteside where Alex Len doesn’t. We have seen a few good games from Dedmon here and there, but the minutes have been there. Dedmon will have ample opportunity for him to hit value here.
Richaun Holmes ($3,500): Holmes put up arguably his best game of the season against the Clippers on Friday. Can he build on that 35 DraftKings point gem? Chances are that Holmes wont play 21 minutes again, but he might if Ayton struggles again. Holmes is a very interesting value pick tonight.
Bismack Biyombo ($3,400): Willy is a good story and is the better offensive player, but Biyombo is that rim protector they covet. I still don’t think he has all that great of a game on either end of the floor against Adams, but Biyombo can’t help but hit value at this price just on defensive stats alone. Don’t believe me? Biyombo racked up 39.5 DraftKings points against Jokic yesterday. Welcome to today’s chalk play.
My pick: Biyombo(C)
