What in the world is The Kominsky Method?
By Kareem Gantt
The Kominsky Method has now taken home two Golden Globe awards. The question is, what even is The Kominsky Method?
The Kominsky Method has now taken home two Golden Globes. One for Best Television Performance by an Actor – Musical/Comedy (Michael Douglas) and the biggie for television comedies, Best Television Series – Comedy.
While it’s great to see a show such as The Kominsky Method get so much love at the Golden Globes, many are now asking what the heck is The Kominsky Method? How did it win Best Television Series (Comedy) over a show like The Good Place?
Those are great questions to ask, and unfortunately, the latter one is impossible to answer. You’ll have to take that up with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
There is some clarity to be had for the former.
The Kominsky Method is a comedy (as you may know by now) that follows an actor named Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), who was once a star in Hollywood but fell out of the scene. Now, Kominsky is a Hollywood acting coach, and the show basically follows his journey with his new role.
Douglas stars as Kominsky, and he brings his funny chops to the role. Alan Arkin plays Norman Newlander, who is Sandy’s agent and good friend. Sarah Baker plays Mindy Kominsky, Sandy’s daughter who, along with her father, runs the acting studio. Finally, there’s Nacy Travis, who plays Lisa, a divorced widow who is taking acting lessons from Sandy.
The show is the creation of sitcom legend Chuck Lorre, and it premiered on Netflix on Nov. 16 of last year. The show is only eight episodes long, and it already racked up not one, but two Golden Globes. So, it’s understandable for fans of other shows, such as The Good Place, which has been on the air or three seasons, to feel like their show got robbed.
