NHL DFS Man Advantage Monday January 7th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome the NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday night January 7th! Tonight we get a small 5 game slate to work with. With only 5 games on the slate, there is a lack of top end talent tonight, but we do get a plethora of mid range guys. I usually go with a stars/scrubs roster build, but it’s going to more of a balanced lineup build for me tonight.
You will find the majority of the top talent with Toronto and Calgary on this NHL DFS slate, and Patrick Kane. Even the goaltenders are, well, eh tonight. I actually am more interested in the lower priced goalies tonight then the top priced ones as you will read shortly.
NHL DFS Goalies:
As I mentioned above I am more interested in the lower tier of goaltenders, and that’s where I find my top play, Carter Hart ($7,200) in a very winnable matchup with the Blues. Hart has lost his last 4 starts but with the exception of the New Years Eve game against Carolina when he was pulled after giving 3 goals on 10 shots he has played well. In 2 of the other 3 losses Hart had a SV% over .900. St. Louis is averaging just under 3 G/PG (2.9) and take 30.2 SH/G.
Another goalie I am interested in with a fairly winnable game is Carey Price ($7,900). Price and the Habs host a Minnesota Wild team that comes in losing 6 of their last 9 games. Price has won 3 of his last 4 starts and has only allowed 7 goals in the 4 games.
David Rittich ($8,300) and Martin Jones ($8,200) are the highest priced options and have games that they both should win, Rittich gets the Blackhawks on the second night of a back to back and Jones has the Kings
NHL DFS Top Individual Players:
Johnny Gaudreau ($7,700) – Nobody in the NHL has been hotter than Johnny Hockey has been since the beginning of December. In his last 10 games Gaudreau has 11 goals and 9 assist and is averaging 7.4 FPPG…one more time 7.4 FPPG, WOW! Gaudreau has taken 42 SOG in the same 10 game span.

Viktor Arvidsson ($6,700) – Arvidsson has put up 4 goals and an assist in his firs 6 games back from injury. I know Hutchinson had a great game Saturday, but that is not something to expect from him on a regular basis. If he starts I really like the Nashville top line for a stack with Arvidsson joined by Ryan Johansen and Ryan Hartman.
Ryan O’Reilly ($6,400) – O’Reilly comes into tonight’s game with Philadelphia riding a 5 game point streak ( 3 goals 3 assists). St. Louis is in the midst of a horrendous season but O’Reilly is undoubtedly their best player in my opinion with 38 points in 39 games and is on pace for right around 80 points.
Brent Burns ($6,400) – Burnsy is riding his own 5 game point streak coming into Monday night with 3 goals and 9 assists in that 5 game span and should look to continue it against a miserable Kings team.
Zach Parise ($6,100) – In his last 5 games Parise has put up 4 goals and 5 assists and is averaging a Johnny Gaudreau like 7.1 FPPG. In his last game against the Canadiens back in December Parise scored a goal and 2 assists.
Jared Spurgeon ($5,400) – After being held pointless for 7 straight games, Spurgeon finally got back on the score sheet 2 games ago and has 5 points (3 goals 2 assists ) in his last 2 games. Spurgeon plays alongside Ryan Suter on the Wild’s top D pair and also on the teams second PP unit.
Craig Smith ($5,100) – Smith is currently on a 3 game goal scoring streak and a 5 game point streak for the Predators heading into Mondays game. Smith is having a great season and seems to be on his way to his 5th 20 goal season with 14 goals so far this season in 43 games. Smith also seems to play better on the road with 13 points and 72 SOG in 21 road games this season.
Anze Kopitar ($ 5,000) Kopitar has points in 6 of the King last 7 contests totaling 2 goals and 4 assists in that span.
Jordie Benn ($3,200) – Jordie has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 games for the Canadiens. Benn is getting points with peripherals as well, which is what you hope for with a guy at this low price. You don’t expect the goals and assists, but they are an added bonus if you get them
NHL DFS Line Stacks
Toronto 1/2 : I am leaning with Toronto for some value, but I also don’t plan a full stack with this team against Nashville
Montreal 3 : Amazing value here with some real talent
Minnesota 2
San Jose 2 : More value
