DraftKings EuroLeague Basketball Picks January 8

We have a two round week, so the DraftKings EuroLeague tournaments start on Tuesday instead of Thursday. The Tuesday-Thursday this week is weaker at guard with Mike James on the other slate and Alexey Shved still out. Who should anchor our lineups?

The rotations can be frustrating sometimes as more players see the court than in your average NBA game. The games themselves are also shorter, playing four ten minute quarters as opposed to 12 minutes in the NBA. The court is smaller, the lane is bigger, and the three point line is closer, but the action is still what you would expect from world class basketball!

For DraftKings EuroLeague, we can’t expect 5x value like in the NBA. Most winning lineups are around 180-200 DraftKings points, which is around 3.5 – 4x value.

Guards:

The easiest best play is Vasilije Micic. He only had 19 DraftKings points in his first game against Zalgiris, but Micic is the focal point of the Efes offense. He wasn’t in the first meeting. Micic should easily hit 30, and may be the only guard to do so. I think we have to eat the chalk here.

I kind of have the feeling that Nate Wolters‘ ankle is still bothering him. Facundo Campazzo is the way to go if moving off of Micic, or if you plan on having two stars in the lineup. Campazzo is inconsistent, but this is as good as the matchups get.

I don’t really like the matchup for Dee Bost, but he has been the guy to use with Shved out. Marko Guduric and Matt Janning are tempting, but if hanging out in this tier, I’m either using Campazzo or Bost. Krunoslav Simon becomes an elite play here as well if Beaubois is out.

I do like Kostas Sloukas against Khimki. They are still a solid defensive team on the perimeter, but they take a hit without Shved in there. Luca Vildoza is a really strong play as well. He has five straight rounds with more than 22 DraftKings points.

While Janis Strelnieks is no longer a value play, he still may be worth paying up for. Strelnieks has 60.5 DraftKings points over the last two rounds.

Derrick Walton seems to have taken the minutes that Thomas Walkup was getting, and he is doing a lot more with them. This is a really good spot for Walton at a very reasonable price. Marius Grigonis has been on a nice run lately as well. You could use both in a Zalgiris stack for about the price of Micic alone.

The only other one I would consider as a value play is Josh Magette, but he has a horrible matchup, and Clevin Hannah may be back today. Still, Magette put up 16.25 DraftKings points in 20 minutes against a good Khimki team in his EuroLeague debut. Gran Canaria is going to use him. Magette is about the only one I would consider in this backcourt due to the tough matchup against Real Madrid.

Brandon Davies racked up 34.75 DraftKings points on Efes in the first meeting this year. He has also been over 21 DraftKings points in every game since November 21st. Davies is a pretty low risk play here. Jan Vesely is also worth a look against a horrid Khimki front. I would consider stacking him with Joffrey Lauvergne here if you aren’t paying up for a guard.

Tomorrow is going to be a mess for forwards since the three worst frontcourt defenses are all in action today. Gustavo Ayon missed the first meeting with Gran Canaria, but his teammates tore them apart. Ayon should get in on the action here. I would consider Rudy Fernandez as well, but probably wouldn’t drop any further down the depth chart. Real Madrid is already priced up due to the great matchup.

That means this could be a time to take advantage of the relatively lower prices of guys like Adrien Moerman. Zalgiris has been ravaged up front lately. Moerman and Bryant Dunston are a cheaper stack than Fenerbahce, and come at a solid discount.

Vincent Poirier and Aaron White look like the places to go in the middle tier. I’m probably only running with Joffrey as part of a stack. I do really like Poirier again with Shengelia out for an extended period of time. They jacked up the price on Shavon Shields as well, but he’s still cheap at $7,700. Shields put up 30.25 DraftKings points with Shengelia out last round, and put up 21.25 in the game in which Shengelia exited. Johannes Voigtmann also played his most minutes and got the most production of the season.

There isn’t a lot of value, but Luigi Datome has put up 49 DraftKings points over the last two rounds and is still only $7,200. If you must go lower than that, Edgaras Ulanovas is about the only place I would go.
