Alabama got hit last night with one of the more popular curses of the modern era, Drake.
Forget about the Sports Illustrated and Madden Cover Curse and start worrying about the Drake curse.
Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship had most of the country in shock. After demolishing Clemson in the semifinal round of the playoff last year and holding a 2-1 playoff record over the Tigers, most expected this year’s game to be more of the same. However, Clemson dominated Alabama 44-16 to win their second national title in three years and hand Nick Saban the worst loss of his Alabama career.
When their favorite teams lose, some fans do not want to give the others credit. This leads to them resorting to blaming the officials, one particular player, or some type of “curse”. That is the case for most of the Alabama faithful today.
Fans have taken to social media to blame recording artist Drake for the Tide’s loss. Five days ago, the artist posted a video wearing an Alabama hoodie. The notorious bandwagon jumper was teased by the Clemson football account during the game with Tigers fans quickly expressing how much they do not want Drake to jump on the Tiger bandwagon.
Immediately, Alabama fans started to worry. Over the past several years, every team Drake has publicly shown support for has lost. The curse got to Nick Saban and the Tide last night for its latest victim.
Kentucky basketball was one of the first. Since Drake’s public support of the Wildcats, the team has failed to win a championship since 2012. His favorite NBA team, the Toronto Raptors, have failed to reach the finals and have always come up short in the playoffs. Drake also vocalized his support for UFC fighter Conor McGregor before his clashes with Floyd Mayweather and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Both fights resulted in two of the worst losses for McGregor.
As another example of this so-called “Drake curse” rears its head, fans cannot help to believe it is real. Believing in curses is a stretch but after this kind of defeat, Alabama fans are looking to point their fingers at anything but Saban.
Be aware of who Drake is pulling for next because you do not want it to be your team.
