NBA Best Fantasy Plays to Win – Tuesday, January 8th
By John Fazio
This 8 game schedule for January 8 yields many solid opportunities to roster a winning line-up so let’s dive right into our NBA best fantasy plays.
NBA Best Fantasy Plays – Point Guards
De’Aaron Fox ($7200), Sacramento
After under-performing his last 3 starts, he now goes on the road and is in a great spot against the Suns who love to give up points to guards. He actually does better on the road, and will be lightly owned because of the other options out there and his recent play. Worth a roster.
Victor Oladipo ($8400), Indiana
He was stymied in his last outing at Toronto, producing only 22 points in 34 minutes; but he bounces back very well from poor performances and in addition is better on the road than at home. He will be under-owned by the ‘what have you done for me lately’ crowd, so give him a roster and watch the points pile up.
Ben Simmons ($9100), Philadelphia
Wow what a great spot for him at home versus Washington who gives up huge numbers to PG’s. Simmons has averaged a whopping 1.6 PPM his last 3 home games against tougher defenses than the Wizards offer.
NBA Best Fantasy Plays – Shooting Guards
Gary Harris ($5400), Denver
Tournament play only as he is wildly inconsistent, but he really looks good in this spot. If he produces he’ll be a lightly owned low-cost winner. Miami is 29th in the league defending shooting guards. Harris has played 3 games since coming back from a month-long absence with this scoring sequence: 11.5, 17.75, and most recently 35.5 DraftKings points. He’s regaining form so get him while his price is still low.
JJ Redick ($5500), Philadelphia
Getting the minutes and playing very well recently. He’s in a good spot at home against Washington and has been a much more solid producer than most would think playing alongside Simmons and Embiid.
Norman Powell ($3800), Toronto
Very rarely do you get a consistent 1 PPM producer from such a low-cost high minutes player. He’s been averaging 24 minutes per game recently, easily covering salary based expectations.
NBA Best Fantasy Plays – Small Forward
Josh Jackson ($4900), Phoenix
He’s been leading the second unit in scoring and is in a nice spot at home versus Sacramento. Very up and down, he’s not a lock, but when he’s on can far exceed salary based expectations. Home against the Kings is where he should shine.
Tobias Harris ($7600), LA Clippers
He’s very capable of putting up big numbers against soft defenses, and Charlotte fits that category ranking 24th against his position. He comes with a projected 58.75 ceiling and always gets solid minutes on the court.
Kawhi Leonard ($9600), Toronto
Elite high-cost player but too much of a risk to fade him at home against a weak defending Hawks squad. The 230 game total doesn’t hurt his projections either.
NBA Best Fantasy Plays – Power Forward
Draymond Green ($7200), Golden State
No better spot for him than at home against the Knicks. He should have his way inside to the rim and he comes with a projected 48 ceiling; very well placed to enhance your roster.
Pascal Siakam ($6700), Toronto
Routinely scores 40-45 DraftKings points against weak defenses, and this is one of them. Rarely scores lower than 1 point per minute and should get plenty of court time at home versus Atlanta.
John Collins ($6900), Atlanta
He will have very low ownership at Toronto but the Raptors do give up points to this position. He could surprise in this spot so don’t ignore him.
NBA Best Fantasy Plays – Center
Willie Cauley-Stein ($6300), Sacramento
The last time he played the Suns he had an unusually bad outing so I am expecting better things from him this time. Phoenix does not guard the rim very well and he should haul in a good amount of defensive rebounds.
Deandre Ayton ($8100), Sacramento
I’m still targeting this game as a shootout up and down the floor. Ayton comes with a projected ceiling of 60 which he has surpassed 2 times in the last 8 games. Give him a look.
Joel Embiid ($11000), Philadelphia
I wish there was a good way to fade him at this salary, but his 77.75 ceiling and playing at home against Washington makes him a must mention. I believe he will out-produce Westbrook (priced at $11200), and is such a force inside that he’s almost guaranteed a double double. I like the stack of Simmons, Redick, and Embiid here. Look for injuries closer to game time to open up low-cost roster spots to accomplish this goal.
