The No. 3 Tennessee Volunteers are taking a trip on over to Columbia, Missouri where the Mizzou Tigers are planning on upsetting one of college basketball’s best.

Mizzou will certainly have its hands full when the Tigers get to play the third-ranked team in the country. The No. 3 Tennessee Volunteers will arrive in Columbia with a roster loaded with juniors and seniors who have realistic and achievable national title aspirations for this season. Can the Tigers really contend with a team like that?

At the moment, that seems unlikely.

Mizzou averages 69.1 points per game while allowing teams to score 63.2 points per game. The Vols, on the other hand, manage to score 86.3 points per game and give up 65.2 points per game. There’s an astonishing disparity between these two teams.

Tennessee’s leading scorer, 6-5, 234 pound junior forward Grant Williams, averages 19.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He’s closely followed in both categories by 6-5, 240 pound senior forward Admiral Schofield, who is scoring 18.2 points and getting 6.0 rebounds per game. Combined, the duo averages 6.9 assists per game.

Mizzou’s leading scorer will need to play notably above the level that he has up to this point in the season if the Tigers are going to try and match the Volunteers. Jordan Geist only puts up 13.9 points per game while pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game. More than likely, Geist is going to struggle to try to keep up with Williams and Schofield.

The Tigers are going to have a hard time keeping up with the Vols offensively. Rick Barnes and Tennessee have no issue making this game a track meet. The Tigers, on the other hand, would struggle to keep up if they had to score over 70 points to win this game.
