Golf is back! And I am here with some Yahoo PGA DFS Targets for you! If you are not playing at least some DFS on Yahoo yet you need to pay attention to what they are doing over there. This article will offer some golfers to target for all DFS contests on Yahoo for this weeks Sony Open in Hawaii.

Well it didn’t take long to get a no-rake / no management fee tournament for PGA from my new favorite DFS site. I really hope this one fills up quick, because it would be nice to see a larger, less expensive one, but it makes sense to test it out small. The first GPP tournament for Yahoo PGA DFS will be a $20 entry fee, again with 10-max entries, which helps to even the field. There are 1,250 total spots available for this one, and it will pay out the total amount of entry fees to the top 250 finishers, with Yahoo taking nothing off of the top. As of the time this will post, it will likely be just over half full, so if you are interested in that make sure you head over there when you finish up here.

We will keep this simple, and break it down into tiers as I do with most of my other articles. The top-tier will consist of golfers $40 and over. That will be followed with the mid tier, which will be players between $30 and $39. Then I will find the value plays, which will be all the targets below $29. Last but not least, there will be the FantasyCPR staple sample lineup which you all know and love.

Yahoo PGA DFS: Rosters and Scoring

If you are completely new to DFS on Yahoo, it is a little different when it comes to salaries and salary cap, but the game is nearly the same in terms of scoring and roster size. We get a $200 salary cap to roster six golfers, which gives an average of $33 per golfer. The most expensive players to roster will cost you between $42-$48 or so on most weeks, and the minimum priced golfers are $20.

Yahoo PGA DFS: 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii – About the Event

The 2019 PGA Sony Open is held at Waialae Country Club, in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii. It is the first full-field event of the 2019 season, with 144 golfers total in the field. Roughly 70 of them will make the cut, and my goal for an event with a cut, like most them are, is to get all six golfers through to the weekend. We have plenty of course history to go off this week, as many of the names in this field have had some success here.

Without further ado, let’s get to the targets!

Yahoo PGA DFS: Top-Tier Targets – 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii

Justin Thomas – $46

If you are unaware, Justin Thomas was on one here at the Sony Open in 2017. He broke the aggregate score record for this event with a 253, which equaled 27-under, and was good for a seven stroke victory. Patton Kizzire won here in 2018, with a score of 17-under to put that into perspective a bit.

JT won two events in 2018, and was among the top of the leaderboard pretty much all four days last week at Kapalua. He ended up finishing at 18-under, which was good for a solo third. There is very little value on the low-end this week, so we may only have room for one golfer over $40 this week. JT is my guy on Yahoo .

Marc Leishman – $41

I am going to run two lineups this week on Yahoo, but the thought of fading Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau in the same lineup seems somewhat silly. I want to make a more balanced lineup however, and my thought is to make Leishman my top salary play in that lineup.

Leishman T-4 last weekend at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and the CIMB classic champion was in contention the whole way. A solid putter and wind player, Leishman is a perfect fit once again, and I fully expect another top-10 finish here. He should be a popular play in cash games.

***Also Consider: Bryson DeChambeau – $44***

Yahoo PGA DFS: Mid-Tier Targets – 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii

Charles Howell III – $37

I talked about him a bit in my rankings article that was published this morning, but when there is a play as solid as this I am just going to have to overlap a bit, and try not to completely repeat myself. First of all, the pricing on Yahoo is fantastic this week, as it is very difficult to lock in more than a couple of these guys.

The stat is incredible, so if you missed it, Howell has made the cut 17 times in 17 tries in this event in his career. He has sprinkled in two seconds, two thirds, and two fourth place finishes as well over the years. Always play as much Howell as possible in Hawaii.

Kevin Kisner – $37

More article overlap here, but Kisner is the other $37 golfer I have my eyes on this week. He had back-to-back top-5 finishes here at Waialae in 2016 and 2017, and finished T-25 in 2018. Kisner struggled at Mayakoba and missed the cut, but bounced back nicely at The RSM Classic, where he finished T-7 at 13-under. Another solid cash game play, I think may fade him in tournament play. Both he and Howell will popular, and fading both for GPP may be a solid strategy. There are a handful of pivots below, and my favorite in that group at this moment is Brian Harman.

Yahoo PGA DFS: Low-Tier Targets – 2019 Sony Open in Hawaii

James Hahn – $26

I played a little PGA on Yahoo last season, and I can remember it never being a problem finding a playable golfer or two at the minimum price of $20. Well kudos to whoever sets the pricing their this week because, I think they have finally nailed it.

Hahn finished second here at Waialae last year, losing in a grueling six-hole playoff to Kizzire. He is yet another player that plays well here in Honolulu every year, and is a consistent cut-maker at Waialae. He finished either 9-under or 10-under in each of the last three seasons prior to last years runner-up, and finished anywhere between 26th and 36th. Scott Piercy is getting a lot of love this week as well, but I have to give you one minimum price player to target.

Ryan Blaum – $20

First of all, I am not 100% comfortable with any player at the minimum price if I haven’t made that clear yet, but we have to take some risks on these low-end players to roster the studs. Blaum may be a golfer you have never heard of, but he completes the long list of players who have fared well here over the last couple of years.

Blaum barely made the cut in 2017 and finished at just 3-under for the tournament, but he made a solid run here last year with a top-10 finish, at 13-under. Blaum is a 35-year-old journeyman golfer who has bounced from different tours over his career, and he has never won on the PGA Tour. He started playing consistently in October, making 4-of-5 cuts in the fall, with his best finish being a T-4 at The RSM Classic.
