The Washington Redskins were a team that looked destined for the playoffs for much of the 2018 NFL season, that was until their quarterback suffered what could end up being a career-ending injury. After Alex Smith saw his leg snapped in half against the Houston Texans, everything went downhill for the Redskins, and they may have to hit the reset button on the quarterback position.

It is possible the Redskins trade up in 2019 to get a quarterback, as there should be a couple available in the top-10. However, if Smith is okay, or they decide to roll the dice on a free agent signal-caller, they will likely look to bring in some talent in the defensive backfield, especially at cornerback.

In this draft class, there are a couple of names that should be called early in round one, and Byron Murphy from Washington is one of them. During his time with the Huskies, Murphy became one of the better cornerbacks in the Pac-12, and ended his Pac-12 career with a game-winning pick six against Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

Washington has a lot of holes to fill on both sides of the ball, and their whole offseason is going to hinge on whether or not Smith will be returning to the team. The Redskins have to be better against the pass in 2019, and in Murphy, they will have a shutdown cornerback who can legitimately take away one side of the field.
