The Carolina Panthers saw their 2018 NFL season collapse in a hurry after a strong start, as quarterback Cam Newton suffered through another injury-plagued season. Heading into 2018, Newton described himself as healthy, but by the time the team pulled him, he could barely throw the ball 20 yards downfield.

That is a whole other issue in itself, as they are going to have to try to find a way to keep him healthy for a full 16-game season if they are every going to get back to the top of the NFC. Remember, he led this team to a Super Bowl only three years ago, but since then, they have been on a decline, despite making the playoffs last season.

While Newton struggled, the team did get an incredible season from second-year running back Christian McCaffrey, who showed he can be a legitimate feature back at the NFL level. They have the pieces in place on offense to be very good next season, but they are going to have to bring in some talent on the defensive side of the ball in the draft.

One player that makes a lot of sense is Jachai Polite from Florida, who is an elite edge rusher with an incredible motor. Carolina needs to get younger at this position, and Polite is a guy who could come in during his rookie season and really make an impact. The NFC South is loaded with offensive talent, so Carolina better bolster the defense this offseason.
