Dwayne Haskins. 6. player. 31. . Quarterback. Ohio State

The New York Giants got some great news on Monday, as Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins declared early for the 2019 NFL Draft. Haskins is currently the top overall quarterback prospect in next April’s draft, and with the No. 6 overall selection, the New York Giants are the first team that desperately needs a new quarterback,

The fact is, Eli Manning is long in the tooth, and while he put  up good numbers in 2018, his days as the starter in New York are coming to an end. He has a year left on his deal, and will likely be back with the team in 2019, but it would be wise of the Giants to select Haskins and let him learn behind the veteran, much like Manning did with Kurt Warner his rookie year.

Last year,  the Giants decided to pass on a quarterback in a very quarterback-heavy NFL Draft class, instead deciding to select Saquon Barkley from Penn State. Barkley had a monster season for New York, but they need that next franchise quarterback, and after throwing for 50 touchdowns this season, Haskins looks like an NFL talent.

Haskins only started one season for the Buckeyes, as he sat behind four-year starter J.T. Barrett. Still, he has the arm, the size, and the smarts to be a legitimate quarterback at the NFL level, and sitting behind Manning for a year will only make him a better quarterback down the road.
