Welcome to this edition of FanDuel PGA Targets from FantasyCPR.com. Here you will find players to target for this weekend’s Sony Open in Hawaii, taking place at the beautiful Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In this article, I will present to you some players to consider from each price tier for FanDuel PGA. Some plays will be geared toward cash games, and some for GPP tournaments. Some of course will also technically qualify as both. As we break each play down, I will be sure to specify which type of contests I am targeting that player in.

I will give two players to target from the $10K-$12K, two targets from the $9K-$10K range, and two from the $8-9K range. After that, I will offer a couple of long-shot GPP flyers below $8K. Last but certainly not least, I will end the article the ever popular sample lineup we like to do here at FantasyCPR.

FanDuel PGA: 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions Recap:

I got one last week!! What a way to kick off PGA DFS in 2019! If you missed it, one of my five lineups was good enough to win the $.60 Lob Wedge, and finish 2nd in the 5-max $1.00 Flop Shot. The winning lineup consisted of five plays from last weeks article, and the same five who were my core pretty much everywhere. I do not have the screenshot of the lineup, but to keep it simple, it was JT, DJ, Woodland, Leishman, Howell, and the eventual champion Xander Schauffele.

The first five golfers were all mentioned in my articles last week, and the only reason Schauffele was not was because I was turned on to him late. I even told my FantasyCPR brethren before tee off, that I had to have a couple shares of X just out of FOMO, and boy am I glad I did!

To all my new readers I may have picked up this week, welcome! I hope I can do it again this week obviously! To the readers who have been around since last year, thank you for your continued support!

FanDuel PGA: Top Tier Targets: ($10,000 – $12,000)

Justin Thomas – $12,300 – (Cash/GPP)

Thomas is going to be well owned this weekend. He will likely be more than 40% owned in tournaments and probably well over 50% in cash games. Bryson DeChambeau will actually cost you $100 more, but I think he may be a better GPP play for ownership purposes. For cash games though, there is little doubt you should start with JT.

The 2017 Sony Open Champion was solid last week, as an 8-under 65 propelled him to a solo 3rd place finish. Thomas was one of the best in the field tee-to-green last weekend, and if he can gain some strokes putting this weekend he should have no problem finding another top-10 finish here at the very least. Just in case you missed my other articles this week, in that 2017 victory here at Waialae, Thomas broke course records winning by seven strokes, finishing at an incredible 27-under-par.

Marc Leishman – $10,900 – (Cash)

As soon as I saw this price tag, this was my second lock for cash games. I have to say I was actually upset when I saw Woodland priced up to $12K, but seeing Leishman under $11K made up for that really quick. Woodland would still be a fantastic play here and is no doubt the 3rd ranked golfer in the field in my opinion, but there is talk he could withdraw to due to a passing in his family. Keep an eye on that situation and make sure to look for news on Thursday if you have him in your lineup.

Leishman doesn’t have the solid course history here at Waialae as some of the other targets, but he has been one of the more consistent golfers on tour going back to last season. The CIMB Classic champion finished T-4th last week in Maui, and his game sets up well for this course despite the past results. Leishman finished T-28 in 2016, T-20 in 2017, and T-47 last year. I fully expect this to be his best finish in that last four years here, and he is one of my top plays this week.

FanDuel PGA: Mid Tier Targets: ($9,000 – $10,000)

Andrew Putnam – $9,600 – (GPP)

Putnam is a player with not much history here at Waialae, but his recent form has been among the best in the game. The 29-year-old Pepperdine product punched his ticket for last weeks Sentry Tournament of Champions by winning the Barracuda Championship in August, and held his own finishing in the middle of the pack at 10-under and T-14th.

In a large with field with a solid group of targets in this tier, Putnam could easily end up the guy that surprises everyone here. He had a solid October making 3-of-3 cuts, and notched a top-five with a T-4 at the WGC-HSBC Championships. Putnam made the cut here last year, but finished T-69th. Nice.

Kevin Kisner – $9,600 – (Cash)

We are seeing a lot of Kisner love this week, and if I know PGA DFS at all, this is the one pick that has the feel of a “what are we thinking here” situation. As the week goes on, I am starting to remember how bad Kisner was for a long stretch last year, and my hope, along with everyone else’s, is that he is without a doubt past those struggles.

It is the history here at Waialae that has everybody interested, and I get that, that is what got me here. However, those two top-five’s here were two and three years ago. Thankfully the performance at the RSM Classic showed that Kisner may in fact still have something left. He shot 15-under in that one which was his last tournament played, and it was good for a T-7 finish.

***Also Consider: Emiliano Grillo $9,900 (GPP) – Chez Reavie $9,400 (Cash)***

Mayakoba Golf Classic
PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO – NOVEMBER 12: Patton Kizzire of the United States plays his shot from the 16th tee during the final round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba on November 12, 2017 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. (Photo by Cliff Hawkins/Getty Images) /

FanDuel PGA: Low Tier Targets: ($8,000 – $9,000)

Patton Kizzire – $8,800 – (Cash)

Never thought I would see the day I would be recommending Kizzire for cash games, but compared to everybody else in this price range, this just keeps ending up being the play. Yes he won here last year, holding off James Hahn in a six-hole playoff, so he probably will garner some ownership on that fact alone, but he was also solid last week at Kapalua.

Kizzire was among the leaders in the field in strokes-gained putting, and pulled off a T-8 finish in the 34-man field. Putting will be the key stat this weekend, so if he stays hot with it, he should be fine. While this will be the popular play, I may have a solid low ownership tournament play for $200 less in my next target.

Sungjae Im – $8,600 – (GPP)

I am not seeing any love for Im anywhere, so this one is on me if he misses the cut, but the 20-year-old South Korean is making his first trip to Honolulu, and figures to be a staple among a solid group of rookies for this 2019 season.

What I like about him, is that he has jumped right in since turning pro. He has made 4-of-6 cuts since October, with his best finish coming at the Safeway Open, when he burst on to the scene with a T-4 finish. His last action was the RSM Classic, where he was able to shoot all four rounds under par, and finish T-37th. If the rookie can soak it all in play his game, he should do well here. I will be happy if he makes it to the weekend, as getting 6-of-6 golfers through the cut will be the key to big money as always.
