NHL DFS Man Advantage Thursday January 10th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Thursday night January 10th! After the tiny 3 game slate last night we get one 4 times as big with a massive 12 game slate for tonight.
We have some elite NHL DFS match-ups tonight with Washington heading to Bean Town to take on the Bruins, the always nasty battle of NY with the Islanders heading to MSG, two of the top teams in the Pacific, Vegas and San Jose, battle in Sin City.
We also have some match-ups that want to make you turn the TV off, like Arizona in Vancouver, and Montreal traveling to St. Louis. Yes, these last two match-ups may look like something you want no part of on paper, but I did happen to find some value in there tonight.
NHL DFS Goalies
My top goalie tonight is Jonathan Quick ($7,800) in a matchup with the Senators on the second night of a back to back. Quick has been stellar on the season even though the team in front of him hasn’t. On the season Quick has a good 2.88 GAA and a .902 SV% as well as 2 shutouts.
What is great about a slate like this is the abundance of inexpensive goaltending options tonight to use and save a few dollars for your roster. A couple of other options I like tonight are in order:
1 – Carey Price ($8,000) @ St. Louis
2 – Connor Hellebuyck ($7,600) @ Minnesota
3 – Anton Khudobin ($7,800) @ Philadelphia
4 – Jacob Markstrom ($7,800) vs Arizona
Another interesting option is Michael Hutchinson ($8,300), who is 1-2 in his 3 starts with the Maple Leafs this season. Hutchinson hasn’t been an outstanding goalie in his career but is above .500 with a 45-42-13 record and has a pretty good 2.70 GAA.
I probably won’t have exposure to him because of his price, but he does have a good matchup with the Devils who he is 2-0 against making 41 saves on 43 shots in the two games.
NHL DFS Individual Players
High Tier:
Auston Matthews/Nikita Kucherov ($8,100) – I grouped Matthews and Kucherov together because I think they both have easy games, for their standards, tonight and should both be highly owned and since they are the same price on DK I couldn’t choose one, so I picked both. Either way you can’t go wrong and both are great stacking options as well.
Brad Marchand ($7,100) – Speaking of stacking options, as always the Bruins top line is in play. Marchand comes in with points in 8 of his last ten games totaling 6 goals and 8 assists as well 5.3 FPPG which is an entire point higher than his season average
Aleksander Barkov ($6,800) – Barkov and the Panthers travel to Edmonton to take on the Oilers tonight. In his last 10 games Barkov has points in 8 of them with 3 goals and 9 assists as well as a 4.1 FPPG avg. Barkov plays a very high amount minutes for a forward and led the team with 4:03 of power play time last game.
Mid Tier:
Erik Karlsson ($6,300) – Supposedly people said Karlsson wouldn’t fit in with the Sharks, well they were sorely mistaken it would seem. Karlsson enters Thursday with a 14 game point streak with 1 goal and 24 assists during his steak.
He is also averaging near 7 FPPG during his incredible 14 game streak. Since I am talking about Karlsson, I want to add teammate Evander Kane ($5,800) to the list as well. Kane comes into tonight’s game with his own 6 game point streak. During Kane’s streak he has 5 goals and 5 assists and a 6.4 FPPG avg.
Jamie Benn ($ 5,900) Benn hasn’t been producing like a former Hart winner, but a game against this Flyers porous defense might be just what he needs to get rolling. During their current 8 game losing streak the Flyers have given up 31 goals for a near 4 GA/G avg.
Nico Hischier ($5,100) – Hischier has 2 goals and an assist in his last 4 game as well as an over 4 FPPG avg. Hischier has actually been playing better without Taylor Hall in the lineup and is currently centering the team’s top line with Jesper Bratt (good to add with Hischier as a value mini stack) and Kyle Palmieri.
Value Tier:
Justin Williams ($4,500) – Williams has a 4 game point streak (3 goals 1 assist) and is playing like he did earlier when he and Jordan Staal were unstoppable.
With the exception of the rare shutout last game, Tampa has not been able to keep teams off the score sheet of late with 18 goals allowed in the previous 5 games prior to the shut out of Columbus. Williams plays on the Canes 3rd line with Micheal Ferland and Greg McKegg.
Kevin Fiala ($4,200) – Fiala had an assist last night for the Preds (game is still ongoing as I write this) and now has 1 goal and 4 assists in his last 5 games. Along with Colton Sissons and Craig Smith they make a pretty formidable line right now and a good stack against Columbus.
Travis Dermott ($3,300) – Dermott plays on the Leafs third D pair and has 2 assists in his last 3 games. Dermott is a good option on the point tonight because of the expectation of this being a blow out so he might see some more time late in the game.
NHL DFS Line Stacks
Vegas 2 – In Pirri we trust!
Winnipeg 1 – Wheeler and Scheifele are starting to heat up again
Tampa Bay 2 … or Tampa Bay 1 – Either one could have a big game
Montreal 3 = VALUE
Edmonton 1
