Fantasy NBA Best Plays to Win – Friday, January 11
By John Fazio
Welcome to the Friday edition of Fantasy NBA best plays to win. We’ve got a plentiful 9 game slate so let’s dive right in.
By now you know my overall strategy – identify the sleepers, those low-cost good producing players that allow you to roster as many studs as possible. Before we get there though, let’s pinpoint the excellent players in high-octane games whose positions are poorly defended by their opposition.
This way we can maximize both the top and the bottom end of the roster, zeroing in on the optimal Fantasy NBA best plays to win player pool.
Fantasy NBA best Plays to Win – Top Tier:
Joel Embiid (#11000), Philadelphia
No-one has a better match-up except for the blow-out possibility. This is the fastest paced highest total game on the board, with Philadelphia owning the highest projected team total and Atlanta a poor 23rd in the league against centers.
Two games ago Philly was way ahead of Washington and they pulled Embiid early, but that was the first of a back-to-back. The 76ers don’t play tomorrow so I don’t think Embiid will sit that early even if they are winning big. He is priced $1500 under Harden.
Karl-Anthony Towns ($10200), Minnesota
This is an excellent slate for us to be a little different and veer away from the projected highest owned players. Towns is coming off a relatively poor outing but has historically bounced back very well. He has a 70+ projected ceiling and I believe will be overlooked here.
Giannis Anteokounmpo ($11300), Milwaukee
Giannis is probable with a leg injury, but assuming he is cleared to play he could post massive numbers. This should be a wild up and down game with the Wizards scoring a lot also. Currently the Vegas line has the Bucks favored by 6 1/2; this game could easily stay close and force the Milwaukee starters to see an extended run.
Fantasy NBA – Top Mid-Tier Plays
For the average priced players we can still roster good talent while staying under the radar, especially again with the Wizards.
Last game we recommended stacking the Wizard starters using a mix and match strategy. They went off very under owned and some provided great results as the team scored north of 120 points.
Today we can narrow the field somewhat, but with all the players available on this slate and the Wizards still out of favor with most fantasy players, we can find some great values at reasonable if not bargain prices.
Bradley Beal ($8600), Washington
Consistent solid producer with always the possibility of a monster game. He’s the top scorer on the Wizards squad and we are dealing with a very high 231 game total. Ten games ago he dropped an 80 spot on the Suns.
Tomas Satoransky ($5300), Washington
In his prior 3 home games he has averaged 1.13 DraftKings points per minute and this up tempo game should find him beating salary expectations again.
Otto Porter Jr ($5800), Washington
Porter has been claiming more and more of the offensive share since coming back from injury. He played 33 minutes off the bench last outing and is primed to return to the starting line-up at any time.
John Collins ($7800), Atlanta
He’s getting better game by game and seems to excel in an up tempo style. His salary is increasing but so is his production, and I don’t think this 232 game total is going to slow him down just yet. We can roster him with some hope of a huge game as he comes with a 52 projected ceiling.
Andrew Wiggins ($6800), Minnesota
He has been swinging for the fences lately as the team has been willing to allow him to shoot a lot. He gets to the foul line often and his rebounds are strong which substantially raises his floor. We can roster him with some confidence.
Pascal Siakam ($6700), Toronto
He’s a very strong contributor and has a great match-up against the Nets who are ranked 25th against power forwards and 30th against centers. He should provide us with an elevated floor and a possibility of reaching his 46 point projected ceiling.
Fantasy NBA – Top Sleepers
It’s time to identify those players ready to give us solid production at a price conducive to rostering our top-tier standouts. Here we go…
Ian Mahinmi ($3700), Washington
There is always a risk with bench players but he has averaged 30 Draftkings points in the prior 3 games and the high game total should help his floor. Anything is possible here but 30 points is well above what we need to cover his salary.

Furkan Korkmaz ($3900), Philadelphia
As long as Redick remains out and Korkmaz stays a starter he is a solid roster and should get us over 25 points in this spot, given the nature of this game.
Jeremy Lin ($4600), Atlanta
Even in games where he is shooting poorly he can still fill the stat sheet, raising his floor to acceptable play levels. He routinely averages over 1 DraftKings point per minute.
Shabazz Napier ($4300), Brooklyn
He circles around 1 DraftKings point per minute having produced 51 DraftKings points at Milwaukee 6 games ago. He has posted some low numbers as well and is best reserved for tournament play.
Kenneth Faried ($3500), Brooklyn
It’s not likely right now but if injuries put him back in the starting lineup he is a must roster, having averaged 36 DraftKings points the last 2 games he started. At this price it would be too good for us to miss out.
Rodions Kurucs ($4100), Brooklyn
He’s receiving enough playing time as a starter to cover his salary based expectations most of the time. He can be wildly inconsistent, so not many will roster him, and he does have a low floor – use as a tournament flyer only.
Maxi Kleber ($3600), Dallas
Injuries put Kleber into the starting lineup Wednesday and he churned out over 32 DraftKings points. It looks like another start is in store for him today and I would expect a good result, certainly covering salary expectations. Make sure he does draw the start, as his minutes are to erratic off the bench for us to be safe.
