I hope everyone enjoyed my first two EPL breakdowns over the weekend.  There is a Monday game this week that features Manchester City at home against a capable Wolverhampton team for a 3:00pm ET lock.  Since this is just a single game slate, the following EPL DFS Breakdown will be in yet a different format from the previous two.

Since we aren’t comparing multiple games while looking for smash spot, Vegas information on this game is not nearly as relevant.  However, if you’re curious, Manchester City are favored by 2.0 goals and the over/under for goals scored is set at 3.0.

As far as injuries go on this slate, there isn’t much news at all.  Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed Sergio Aguero’s return to training here:

On the Wolves side, there is nothing to note.

Captain Choices

Sergio Aguero (Wolverhampton @ Manchester City, $17) – Manchester City’s striker is going to be a lot of people’s first option at captain, and for good reason.  He has 10 goals and five assists in EPL play this year, including two goals in his last two appearances.  Aguero is one of the most potent goal scorers in the league and he plays for an attacking juggernaut.  Wolverhampton have given up 1.2 goals per game this season, and City could eclipse that average if Aguero is on his game.  Aguero is going to be the chalky captain, but if he goes off, you won’t might not cash while fading him.

Raheem Sterling (Wolverhampton @ Manchester City, $15) – For $2 less, I am more comfortable rostering Sterling as my captain.  He has nine goals and seven assists in the EPL this year, which is comparable to Aguero.  What makes them different is Sterling’s superior ability to pick up peripheral stats.  He leads Aguero in all non-goal/assist categories scored on FanDuel except shots on goal.  Although Sterling has not scored in his last four EPL games, I will not shy away from using him as my captain on Monday, especially with the $2 savings compared to Aguero.

Supporting Cast

Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton @ Manchester City, $10) – On FanDuel single game slates, you must roster at least one player from both teams, and Neves could be a solid way to get your Wolves exposure.  The goal/assist upside is limited with Neves, but he collects important peripheral stats at a good rate.  Neves leads all players at his position in blocked shots this year and is also top 15 in both tackles and interceptions.  He put up 17.3 FDP in his first game against City, and he should be busy again.  If he can get to that same mark on Monday, he’ll be a good member of your supporting cast.  If you’re not interested in paying up for Wolverhampton exposure, Ivan Cavaleiro ($5) is available for cheap.  He’s shown some decent fantasy ability in his limited time.

Bernardo Silva (Wolverhampton @ Manchester City, $7) – Bernardo Silva seems too cheap in my opinion.  Silva is averaging 23 FDP over his last four EPL games, including a great 25.4 FDP performance against Liverpool.  Silva is cheap, has a good floor, and has some upside as well which are all things you want from your non-captains.  A bold GPP lineup might have Silva in the MVP spot while still rostering Aguero/Sterling as well.  Fabian Delph ($5) is completely viable at that price if he helps you get more studs.

Defenders

Willy Boly (Wolverhampton @ Manchester City, $8) – Usually there is enough value among the MIDs on single game slates to pay up for defenders.  If you decide to go that route, Boly is my favorite defender.  He has some big fantasy games for a defender this season with six 20+ FDP games.  He scored in their first game against City, but I would not bet on that again.  The hope is, however, that he is extremely active on Monday trying to tame City’s attack and picks up a lot of peripheral stats.  Ryan Bennett ($6) or Conor Coady ($4) will get you cheap Wolves exposure if you want to completely stack four City FWDs/MIDs.

None of the Manchester City defenders are appealing to me at all, but if you choose to go that direction, your best bets are Kyle Walker ($5) or John Stones ($5).  The good thing about rostering one of them compared to a Wolves defender would be the clean sheet bonus.
