When does Shameless return with new episodes?

It has been nearly three months since an episode of Shameless premiered on Showtime as the series took a massive break between episodes 7 and 8. Fans of the show have been itching for new content, and the good news is that the time for a new episode is almost here.

So far, season 9 of Shameless has brought in just around a million viewers an episode. While this seems low, Shameless tends to do extremely well with later viewing numbers that include DVR and online viewership, as do most shows on subscription networks like Showtime.

The number of average viewers nearly doubles when DVR and streaming numbers are included! This is a huge jump, and a big reason why Shameless continues to be so successful.

Unfortunately, episode 6 of season 9 was Cameron Monaghan’s absolute last episode, so there will be no more of him on the show. Even worse news is that this season is Emmy Rossum’s last season, and that means that she will only appear in the seven remaining episodes and then be done with Shameless. 

So when does Shameless return from this extended three-month break?

Season 9 of Shameless will resume on Sunday, Jan. 20, almost exactly three months from episode 7 (Oct. 21). The break between episodes 7 and 8 happened at the exact midpoint of season 9, as season 9 will consist of 14 episodes. The remaining episodes will air weekly at the scheduled time without any sort of break between weeks.
