Tate Martell is on the move and Miami is the perfect landing spot for the Ohio State transfer.
It takes a certain type of personality to succeed as the starting quarterback at Miami. Tate Martell has that type of personality and he’d be a perfect fit at The U where first-year head coach Tate Martell will have a face of the franchise as he rebuilds the program.
Martell entered the transfer portal last week after Justin Fields transferred to Ohio State and is looking at Miami, West Virginia and Louisville as his next stop. West Virginia and Louisville would be attractive options for the rising redshirt sophomore who had three years of eligibility left, but they both pale in comparison to the prestige and atmosphere that Miami can provide.
Miami has flash, extreme confidence and isn’t afraid to let the opposition know just how good they are. That’s what Martell is and why a transfer to Miami appears to be the most likely destination for the 5-11, 210-pound dual-threat quarterback.
Martell was undefeated as a high school superstar, winning a pair of national championships at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Martell put up staggering numbers en route to winning the Gatorade National Player of the Year and one of the top recruits in his class. Before he even played a down for Ohio State, he was starring in a Netflix series QB1 Beyond the Lights about his final high school season.
Also starring in that season were Martell’s high school teammates, Bubba Bolden and Brevin Jordan who are now at Miami, and they’re both recruiting him to Coral Gables.
While most wait 10 or 20 years for a high school reunion, Martell, Jordan and Bolden could have an extra special reunion in 2019 if they can convince Martell to join them at The U.
It makes too much sense for it not to happen.
