There’s never a dull moment at Chastain Memorial. In the mid-season premiere of The Resident a bombshell drops on the staff when Dr. Hunter returns to cause problems.

When The Resident bowed in the fall finale, Devon had walked away from his wedding to Priya because his feelings for Julian left him wondering if he had chosen the right woman. What he doesn’t realize is that Julian’s attempt to blow the whistle on Quo Vadis may have cost her life after she was forced off the road. Conrad is dealing with his father’s surgery.

Everything is already tense at Chastain, which is the perfect time for the season 1 villain to return.

Here’s the episode description for “After The Fall,” airing January 14:

"Lane Hunter’s victims and their families are outraged when she is released from prison; Bell is continually tortured by Lane’s manipulation; a patient suffers as a result of Lane’s dangerous treatments; Devon worries when he doesn’t hear from Julian."

Just when they thought they’d heard the last of Dr. Lane Hunter at Chastain, she’s granted a release and she’s back. Bell is an easy target given that he had been involved in covering up her mess and subsequently making sure she took the fall on her own, so she has him in her sight.

While the drama with Hunter unfolds, Devon will no doubt be struggling to get back to normal. Julian’s disappearance isn’t exactly cause for concern if she left to start over, but what no one knows is that she might be gone for good, and not in the way they think.
