DraftKings EuroLeague Basketball Picks January 17

We are back to another balanced one round week for our DraftKings Euroleague tournaments this week. Alexey Shved is still out, but is nearing a return. We will have to keep an eye on this for next week. With Shved still out, who is the star of this slate with James on Friday’s? We have seven players in five figures, but there are a lot of middle tier picks.

The rotations can be frustrating sometimes as more players see the court than in your average NBA game. The games themselves are also shorter, playing four ten minute quarters as opposed to 12 minutes in the NBA. The court is smaller, the lane is bigger, and the three point line is closer, but the action is still what you would expect from world class basketball!

For DraftKings EuroLeague, we can’t expect 5x value like in the NBA. Most winning lineups are around 180-200 DraftKings points, which is around 3.5 – 4x value.

Guards:

Where’s my usual former NBA go to guys? They are all on tomorrow’s slate. Former Spur Nando De Colo leads the way for CSKA, but he doesn’t have that high ceiling. A 40 DraftKings point game in the EuroLeague can really vault you to the top. The most likely to do that at guard is probably Thomas Heurtel. He struggled in the first game against Tel Aviv, but has at least 29 DraftKings points in three straight. He is Barcelona’s unquestioned leader.

We are still trying to fill in the Shved blank for Khimki, but it’s really hard. Dee Bost looked like the guy for a while. Then Markovic. Then Charles Jenkins. Now it’s a free for all, and I really can’t justify spending on any of them. Not even Garlon Green as a value pick.

Nando de Colo was awful in the first game against Munich, so I will look to one of the other CSKA guards that I kind of feel like they steal each other’s thunder. I think I would rather play Sergio Rodridguez and Cory Higgins despite the lower floor. They both topped 25 DraftKings points in the first Munich game.

Kostas Sloukas had a ceiling game against Gran Canaria the first time around, and should again. I think I would rather go after Khimki while Shved is still out with Nigel Williams-Goss and Vassilis Spanoulis.

Nihad Dedovic looks pretty cheap at his price point. He isn’t a true value play unless you are fading all of the five figure guards, but he also has a nice matchup, and with Jovic struggling, should put up another strong game.

Albert Oliver is a fringe value pick with a decent floor. He is the main guard for Gran Canaria, but that team is mostly a mess. You are taking a risk playing any of them against Fenerbahce. Petteri Koponen, Melih Mahmutoglu, and even Maodo Lo are all better value plays.

Forwards:

You could probably throw a lot of Fenerbahce bench players out there and get value because this game looks like a blowout. The only question is will Jan Vesely continue his strong play in January? Vesely has 100.25 DraftKings points in three January contests, and has a terrific matchup once again. Nicolo Melli looks like a great pick as well if you want to stack this.

Nikola Milutinov should be back after missing both games last week with an illness, and this matchup against Khimki is as good as it gets for forwards. If he sits for some reason, Printezis and Zach LeDay become good targets. They may be anyway just based on the matchup.

The only other forward above $9,000 that I would really trust is Jordan Mickey. He has taken over the bulk of the scoring with Shved out, and continues to put up big numbers for Khimki. Olympiacos has a pretty good front, but Mickey will still get his.

Kostas Papanikolaou and Alex Tyus are solid mid tier plays, but I think we need more value here. We could run with Angelo Caloiaro, but I don’t know if we can trust that he can hit 20 anymore. I think I would rather go with Kevin Seraphin despite the tough matchup. He has four straight games of more than 20 DraftKings points.

Eulis Baez is still putting up good numbers despite the tough matchups the last couple of weeks, but I think I still prefer Tony Crocker due to the better matchup tonight.

The whole lower tier has poor matchups except for Georgios Bogris. Bogris has put up 34.75 DraftKings points over the last two games, and seems to have worked his way into the Olympiacos rotation.
