NFL DraftKings Conference Championship Lineup Strategy
By Bill Pivetz
With one weekend left of playoff football, here is the best NFL DraftKings lineup for the championship games.
Just like in the last five seasons, no wild card teams made it to the championship game. This is the second time that each conference’s No. 1 and 2 seeds made it this far. Both games feature some high-powered offenses and drive-stopping defenses that could change the course of a game. With this, building your NFL DraftKings lineup could result in a lot of fantasy points.
In this first game on Sunday, the NFC Championship game will be decided between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. The second game will see the New England Patriots travel to West to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
After what we saw between the Philadelphia Eagles and Saints, the dome could play a factor. The crowd noise forced the Eagles to suffer a couple of delay of games. With the playoff inexperience of Jared Goff and the rest of the Rams, we could see a repeat of the division game.
Goff is the cheapest of the four starting quarterbacks at $5,400. Drew Brees is not much more expensive at $5,900. While they haven’t allowed many points, both defenses haven’t forced a lot of turnovers or sacks to add extra fantasy points.
The Rams passing game has a trio of weapons in Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds. For the Saints, it’s Michael Thomas and everyone else. Brees will target Ted Ginn and Tre’Quan Smith but will not be effective against the Rams.

Thomas is the most expensive wide receiver at $8,200. Woods is priced at $5,700, Cooks at $5,300 and Reynolds at $4,200. Looking at the receivers in the AFC title game, you could stack a couple of receivers from this game.
The running back situation is between Todd Gurley and Alvin Kamara. I can’t factor Mark Ingram into the equation. He hasn’t rushed for more than 70 yards since Week 11 against the Eagles. Kamara is racking up both the rushing and receiving yards. Gurley is the bell cow with at least 11 carries in every game
However, don’t rule out the revived C.J. Anderson. He’s rushed for at least 123 yards with four touchdowns in the last three games. The one-two punch of Gurley and Anderson could cause trouble for the Saints rushing defense. Gurley will cost $7,500, Kamara $6,500, Anderson $5,000 and Ingram just $4,600.
Moving on to the AFC game, a game that could see snow and temperatures below freezing, the quarterback battle between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes will be a good one. Despite being 41 years old, if you weren’t aware, Brady can still sling the ball. He has three one-touchdown games in his last four but completed 34 passes for 343 yards, the most in that span.
Julian Edelman is Brady’s go-to target. He caught nine passes on 13 targets for 151 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers. With DraftKings using PPR scoring, Edelman is a must-play in all lineups. Phillip Dorsett and Chris Hogan aren’t consistent enough. They could score a touchdown but do you want your lineup to rely on “could?”
Since cutting Kareem Hunt, Damien Williams has been a star. He’s scored at least 29 fantasy points in three of his last four games. Andy Reid loves his running backs and will drain the clock as much as possible to keep the ball from Brady.
The Patriots have a good one-two punch in Sony Michel and James White. Michel had 129 yards and three touchdowns last week. White caught a ridiculous 15 passes for 97 yards. The Chiefs defense cannot stop the run so both running backs will have great games.
With the weather playing a big factor, I could see both teams relying more on the run instead of their quarterback’s arms.
Travis Kelce is the top tight end and accurately priced at $7,100. Rob Gronkowski hasn’t been himself all season so you can’t trust him either. A sleeper play would be Tyler Higbee of the Rams. Other than that, you’re taking a big risk.
The same could be said for the defense. You’re hoping the defense can limit their opposing offense to 20 points. Anything more may score you negative points. No one defense is priced higher than $2,700 and rightly so.
My lineup is Mahomes, Kamara, White, Thomas, Edelman, Dorsett, Kelce, Keith Kirkwood and Chiefs D/ST with $0 remaining.
I get the big play ability from Mahomes. The PPR upside of Kamara and White. Thomas and Edelman are the top targets on their respective teams. Dorsett and Kirkwood are my breakout picks. Kelce is the only tight end I can trust. The Chiefs pass rush and secondary could disrupt Brady and the Patriots defense.
There’s a reason all four of these teams made it as far as they did. The quarterback play is great, they can change it up with the running backs and have excellent pass catchers.
Comment with your lineups. Good luck to all DraftKings players.
