The CW’s Riverdale season 3 continues on Wednesday night with episode 9, “No Exit,” the midseason premiere. Here’s how to watch the episode online.

January marks two years since Riverdale first premiered on The CW. While the show may only be in the middle of season 3, it has changed a lot from season 1.

Back in the first season, it looked like Riverdale would pick up a torch that The CW had let drop in recent years, the teen soap opera. All the ingredients were there. High school kids played by 20 somethings, love triangles (this time with the years of comic book history as well) and so much drama. Add in a murder mystery and only 13 episodes to get a teen drama updated for 2017.

But, when Riverdale returns to resume its third season, the town (and show) will have little in common with season 1. Riverdale now seems to resemble more of a dystopian future. Hiram Lodge is in control and the town is cut off from the outside world.

There is also the chance that everything that is happening is all just part of Riverdale being controlled by the Gargoyle King. He might just be a scare tactic created by the nuns at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy. Or, the Gargoyle King may be the ultimate puppet master turning everything that has ever happened on the show into a real version of the Gryphons & Gargoyles game.

It is hard to know because season 3 has yet to really answer any question, just piking mystery on top of mystery. Eight episodes in, and the show has yet to address the floating babies of the fire from the season premiere. Really, the entire The Farm storyline has gone nowhere yet.

The midseason premiere is sure to focus on how everybody is adjusting to living in Hiram’s brave new world. But, after this week, it would be nice for the show to actually provide some development in the much talked about The Farm storyline.

Either focus on a killer game or a cult, both are miles away from the show that premiered two years ago.
