The biggest game of the weekend will see two clubs from London meet in a matchup that could decide the Premier League’s top four. Arsenal and Chelsea are both fighting to return to the Champions League, and the similarities between them this season are plentiful. Both teams are looking to bounce back from seasons well below their typical quality, and both teams are experiencing resurgences with a new manager.

Unai Emery’s first year in charge of Arsenal saw the Gunners go on a lengthy unbeaten run over the first half of the season. After losing their first two games to Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal did not lose a game in the Premier League until mid-December. Many expected a lengthy adjustment period for Emery after the departure of longtime Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, but Emery has gotten the best out of players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, leading to Arsenal being one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch.

Chelsea have experienced an equally as impressive season, and they’ve played well against some of the biggest teams in the league along the way. At this point in the season, Chelsea own victories over league champions Manchester City and the aforementioned Arsenal. They also played to draws against Manchester United and Liverpool.

The Blues are currently in fourth, but are clinging to a six point lead over Arsenal. Winning on Saturday would open the gap to nine, and with Arsenal facing a particularly tough run of fixtures, it could be a very significant win in the context of the entire season.

Saturday’s game could be the difference between Champions League and Europa League soccer for one of these teams.
