Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Saturday night January 19th!  Tonight we have a 9 game slate to break down in the NHL and it looks like a good one. I am going to be adding a new wrinkle to my article now with a section for my top defenseman to pay up for and my top dman to pay down for. I personally do not generally pay up for a defenseman, but everyone has a different strategy to their lineup builds so I am going to give you one in each category.

Even with 9 games on the NHL DFS slate tonight, goaltending looks kind of weak again surprisingly. We have some good goalies (Fluery, Vasilevkiy, Jones, and Rittich) in games against some hot teams or teams with great offenses. There is also a game that it seems both goalies are in play because it’s two offenses that aren’t that great.

NHL DFS Goalies

Tonight’s top pick in net for me is going to be Pekka Rinne ($8,300) in a home matchup with the Florida Panthers on the second night of a back 2 back. Rinne has not been playing well of late, but a matchup with a team like Florida could be what he needs to get his game right. Coming into tonight’s game Rinne has lost 3 straight starts with his last win coming all the way back on 1/9. If Juuse Saros ($8,100) starts for Nashville is just as good of a play for me.

Philadelphia travels north to take on the Canadiens in Montreal tonight and this game doesn’t seem like it will be high scoring. Montreal comes in with 15 goals in their last 5 (not including Friday nights game) for an average of only 3 goals per game and has only allowed 9 in that same span. Meanwhile Philly has scored a little more with 18 goals in their last 5, but they do have a 7 goal outburst in there, and they have given up 16 goals in the same 5 game span. It looks like Carter Hart($7,200) should play and given Montreal is on a back 2 back Antti Niemi ($8,200) might get the nod.

My last choice in net is Bruins stalwart Tuukka Rask ($8,100). In his last 10 starts Rask is 7-2-1 with a stellar .924 SV% and a great 2.31 GAA for the Bruins. The Rangers have seemingly found their offense of late with back to back wins and 15 goals in their last 3 games, but they are not a great offensive team with only 136 (21st of 31) goals on the season to date.

NHL DFS Top Forwards

High Tier:

Connor McDavid ($7,800) – McDavid almost seems like a value tonight at his lowest price in his last 10 games. In his last ten games McDavid has points in 9 and has 5 multi point games in that stretch. In 2 games with the Flames this season McDavid has 2 goals and is averaging 4.8 FPPG. McDavid is back centering Leon Draisaitl and Alex Chiasson on the Oilers top line.

Viktor Arvidsson ($7,200) – Arvidsson has 10 goals in his last 10 games and is averaging just under 6 FPPG (5.9) in that span. This is the highest price that Arvidsson has been this season, but he is playing at such an elite level right now that he is worth his price. We will have to wait until the morning skate tomorrow to see who Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg skate with at center after Ryan Johansen was handed a 2 game suspension on Friday.

Matt Duchene($6,600) – If you couldn’t tell by his play, Duchene is a contract year and he is earning himself a nice fat pay-day come July 1. Over his last 6 games Duchene has 5 goals and 4 assists and is averaging 6.2 FPPG. Duchene centers the Sens top line with “The Ryan’s” (Ryan Dzingel & Bobby Ryan) and they are a great play tonight.

Mid Tier:

Matthew Tkachuk ($6,400) – Calgary’s top line is going to show up later on this article but they aren’t the only line scoring for the Flames. Tkachuk comes into tonight’s game with goals in 5 of his last 6 games (Friday night not included), and is averaging 5.1 FPPG in those 6 games.

Zach Parise ($6,200) – Parise has some new linemates heading into tonight’s game with the Jets thanks to a couple of trades. Coach Bruce Boudreau said on Friday that Parise will play with the newly acquired Pontus AbergVictor Rask.  Parise only has 3 assists in his last 5 but he is still driving the offense after taking 11 shots on goal last game, and 25 total shots in the last 5 games.

Sean Couturier ($5,200) – Couturier’s hat trick last game helped me win some contests on Wednesday night, and hopefully you as well. Over his last 5 games the Flyers second line center has 4 goals and 5 assists. Couturier has been logging a ton of minutes for the Flyers as well which is what you want for a fantasy option, in the last 5 games Couturier hasn’t played less than 22 minutes in any game.

Vale Tier:

David Perron ($4,500) – Perron now has an amazing 13 game point streak as well as 17 goals this season, passing last season’s total in his 44th game of the year. Perron plays wing on the Blue second line which will be an under owned stack on Saturday night and could reward you handsomely in GPP’s especially. Besides Perron, Ryan O’Reilly and Jordan Kyrou.

Brandon Tanev ($3,900) – Tanev plays on the Jets 3rd line and doesn’t play any PP minutes so he isn’t an ideal fantasy options, but he has been playing well so he is worth a look. In his last 5 games Tanev has 3 goals and an assist.

Peter Cehlarik ($3,500) – In just 2 games this season Cehlarik has 2 goals and an assist as well as 10.5 fantasy points. In 37 games for Providence of the AHL Cehlarik has 10 goals and 19 assists. Cehlarik is has played with Jake DeBrusk and David Krejci on the Bruins 2nd line.

NHL DFS Top Defensemen

Pay Up :

Roman Josi ($6,100) – In the last 5 games, Josi has 4 assists, as well as averaging 4 FPPG. Josi plays on the Preds top d pair with P.K. Subban and also captains the team’s top PP unit.

More from FanSided

Pay Down:

Caleb Jones ($3,000) – Jones doesn’t put up much as far as real points with only 1 goal and 4 assists in 15 games, but he plays a ton of minutes for his price and sees PP time. Jones, the younger brother of Columbus’ Seth Jones, is the good graces of coach Hitchcock and has been playing over 20 minutes of TOI per game this season.
