UFC Brooklyn: Paige VanZant taps Rachael Ostovich in the second round for comeback win.
Paige VanZant defeated Rachael Ostovich via submission (arm bar), Round 2 – 1:30 at UFC Brooklyn on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 live from the Barclays Center.
All eyes were on this bout after Ostovich was nearly forced off the card due to an alleged assault at the hands of her husband. Ostovich fought to remain on the card as a way to help promote a platform against domestic violence.

Here’s how the fight played out.
ROUND 1
They touch gloves to begin the round. VanZant comes out quickly with a kick that doesn’t land and Ostovich gets her up against the cage before VanZant trips her to the ground. Ostovich gets back to her feet and then slams VanZant to the canvas on her own terms. They laid on the canvas and was eventually brought to their feet but Ostovich tossed VanZant to the canvas again. Ostovich tried to use her body to choke VanZant but wasn’t able to get the right leverage to secure the tap. The women scramble and VanZant gets Ostovich in a compromising position with her ankle in her grasp but Ostovich gets back to her feet in order to drag VanZant right back down again. There was little action but it was clear Ostovich was in control.

ROUND 2
The women stay on their feet for the first 30 seconds of the round before Ostovich drags VanZant right to the canvas again. VanZant got to her feet and Ostovich takes VanZant’s back then slides off and VanZant takes Ostovich’s back. Then VanZant gets ahold of Ostovich’s arm and nearly pulled Ostovich’s arm out before Ostovich tapped to end the fight.
Ostovich was coming off a third-round submission loss at the hands of Montana De La Rosa at The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale and was hoping to get back in the win column with a victory over VanZant on Saturday. VanZant was on a two-fight skid with back-to-back losses to Jessica-Rose Clark and Michelle Waterson and was making her first return since a massive break in her arm kept her sidelined.
