DraftKings NBA Picks January 20: Watch for the big KAT

We are down to a three game slate for our DraftKings NBA tournaments on Sunday. This is the smallest slate of the week, but that doesn’t mean there is a lack of star power. Which high price players should we use? This is a slate where we should be able to get just about anything we want.

More from DFS

The money line last night was up a touch to 276.5. My build with Blake and Harden nearly hit 300. The other one with WCS and Bulls value finished well under.

lakewoody took this down with a modest score of 338.25 DraftKings points. Like 56% of us, he built around Harden and Blake. He got a good return with Kyle Kuzma and huge value out of Ivan Rabb, Zizic, Zaza, and a low owned Dwyane Wade.

DraftKings NBA Guard Picks:

The biggest question at guard is going to be the status of DeMar DeRozan. The Spurs have already played the Clippers three times, and DeRozan has averaged a cool 49.1 DraftKings points per game. If DeRozan is in, he is in my lineup. DeRozan says he is playing, but there is always a chance that the team may not agree.

Devin Booker put up 47.75 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Timberwolves. Booker was a non factor in his return three games ago, but the last two have found him near what his production was before missing ten days. On a small slate like this, Booker is going to be one of the better plays and one of the highest owned.

This isn’t a great matchup for Victor Oladipo, but he has struggled so much lately that his price has dropped to the point where we really need to look into him. Oladipo had a strong game against Dallas last night with 37 DraftKings points despite shooting just 4-15 from the floor. When his shot starts falling again, Oladipo is going to have a game or two where he just crushes value. I definitely trust Booker and Oladipo more than Kemba Walker against the Pacers. However, Walker’s 38.25 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Pacers is a solid return on a contrarian play, but I doubt he hits 5x value with his price where it is.

I’m not a huge fan of Lou Williams. He wrecked some lineups on Friday as a late scratch with hamstring soreness. Hamstrings can be an issue, and LouWill hasn’t been great against the Spurs this year anyway.

The Timberwolves guards have a great matchup against Phoenix, but the only one I really want is Derrick Rose. I can make case for Teague since he put up 27.75 DraftKings points on them the first time around, but he has struggled lately. I seriously doubt Wiggins hits value for the price either.

Kelly Oubre has only been under 30 DraftKings points once in the last six games. He shouldn’t be under here against Minnesota either. I trust him more than the other high upside plays in this tier. Jeremy Lamb would be my next pick, then Derrick White. I don’t know that you can really go wrong with any of the three in the middle tier.

The matchup is right for Bojan Bogdanovic, but he has spent the last three games under 20 DraftKings points. I would much rather fly with Darren Collison here.

If you are looking for some value, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander exploded for 40.25 DraftKings points against the Warriors on Friday. That was 2.75 more DraftKings points in that one game than he had in the previous four combined. If Williams is out again, SGA could be in for another huge night.

I’m a huge fan of Marco Belinelli again. He has five straight games of more than 20 DraftKings points and his price still hasn’t caught up. Mikal Bridges is a nice play as well since the Suns are running Booker more at the point with Bridges or Oubre on the floor over Melton.

Patty Mills, Cory Joseph, and Tony Parker have all been strong point per dollar plays off the bench, but there isn’t a ton of upside here. We shouldn’t have to dig this deep tonight, but if you find yourself scrounging, I would go Joseph, then Parker, then Mills, and if you’re really desperate, Melton.

DraftKings NBA Forwards:

Karl-Anthony Towns is the best play on the slate, and it really isn’t close. He beat up the Suns for 59 DraftKings points the first time around. The issue lately has been back to back bad scores for Towns. One was the result of just 28 minutes in a blowout loss to the Sixers. Friday was a product of Towns fouling out in just 21 minutes.

More from FanSided

LaMarcus Aldridge has averaged 43.1 DraftKings points in the three games against the Clippers so far this year. On top of that, he has held Tobias Harris to 93 points in those three games. However, with Danilo Gallinari doubtful and Lou Williams questionable, Harris could see a massive usage rate and virtually force us into using him despite his struggles against Aldridge.

If Deandre Ayton is able to play, I’m very interested. He had 39.5 DraftKings points in just 25 minutes against Towns the first time around. He sprained his ankle against the Hornets yesterday and didn’t return, so keep a close eye on this. Richaun Holmes also left this game with a foot sprain. If both of them are out, it opens some serious value in the Phoenix frontcourt. Dragan Bender would likely be a huge value, along with the newly signed Quincy Acy.

I’m not a huge fan on Montrezl Harrell or Myles Turner here. Harrell hasn’t been close to value for this price against the Spurs in any of the first three matchups. Turner is just way too inconsistent. Domantas Sabonis and Thad Young are the Pacers frontcourt pieces I want against Charlotte, who is still missing Cody Zeller up front.

Rudy Gay has hit the ground running in his return. He has 91.25 DraftKings points in 79 minutes in the three games against the Clippers so far. That makes Gay a strong mid range play here. So is Marvin Williams, although his ceiling seems to be lower than Gay’s is.

Willy Hernangomez seems to be the place to go for Charlotte value at center. Biyombo is way too inconsistent, but he did ravage Phoenix for 42.75 DraftKings points yesterday. Davis Bertans has between 21 and 24 DraftKings points in five straight games. That’s the kind of value you can bank on, and works very well in cash games, though he doesn’t have the upside you usually want for GPP usage.
