Fans of the Los Angeles Rams have started a petition to remove Bill Vinovich as head referee of the NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints.

NFL referee Bill Vinovich has been calling games since 2001, so it’s safe to say that the man has plenty of experience, whether that be officiating on the field or dealing with criticism off of it.

Don’t tell Los Angeles Rams fans any of that.

Rams fans aren’t thrilled that Vinovich will be calling Sunday’s NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints, mostly due to the team’s record in those games. Since 2012, the Rams have gone 0-8 in games where Vinovich has been the head official.

In fact, some fans are so outraged that they’ve started to sign a petition to have Vinovich removed from Sunday’s game. The petition also points out that a Rams opponent has never been assessed more penalty yards than the Rams in that same time span, while Vinovich’s crew is the only group to ever eject Aaron Donald or Chris Long from a game. Fans are also upset that this is the exact same crew that called the game between these two teams earlier this year.

Obviously, this isn’t something that’s going to actually happen. Vinovich is a respected official with plenty of experience calling games. Rams fans will want to blame someone else for their shortcomings in these contests, but it’s far more likely that this 0-8 record is purely coincidental more than it is some league-wide conspiracy.

No one will be talking about this if the Rams are able to take down the Saints on Sunday and make their way to the Super Bowl. However, if the Rams end up losing and there are some questionable calls, you can imagine that fan base will lose their collective minds all over social media.
