DraftKings NBA Picks January 22: Let the KAT in your lineup
Our DraftKings NBA slate only consists of four games tonight after our big extravaganza yesterday. That doesn’t mean we have no talent here. We have two five figure players and two more priced in the $9,000 range. Which ones are worth playing on this slate? Let’s take a look!

The money line was way down to 258.25 DraftKings points. Several blowouts likely contributed to that. One of my lineups was up at 280.25, so that got me money back for both entries. The value of Faried, Corey Brewer, Zubac, and Looney was true.
hishboo took it down with 343.75 DraftKings points. He built around Klay and Kyrie and got big time value from Wilson Chandler, Redick, Bam, and Kenneth Faried in his Rockets debut.

DraftKings NBA Point Guards:
Best Bets:
Russell Westbrook ($11,000): Westbrook is the highest priced player on the slate, and we really can’t argue that he shouldn’t be. He has the most upside of anyone going today. However, Westbrook has been under 45 DraftKings points in the last two games, and the 53.25 that he put up in the first meeting with Portland would still leave him a little under value. If you pay this for Westbrook, you are paying for the high ceiling, not recent production.
Luka Doncic ($8,400): Doncic picked up his first career triple double against a really good Bucks team yesterday. Fading him against the Clippers doesn’t make a lot of sense to me at this point. The presence of Dennis Smith or anyone else really doesn’t matter at this point. Dallas has shifted their entire focus to Doncic, as they should. Doncic is a good bet for 6x value tonight, and could even go higher than that.
Honorable Mention:
Damian Lillard ($8,100): Lillard had a solid 37.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Thunder, but he is also riding a streak of six straight games of more than 40 DraftKings points. I think I will ride the current hot streak here. Lillard could go unnoticed with the bigger names in front of him, but I expect another solid night from him here.
Kyle Lowry ($7,600): Lowry has established a solid floor, but his ceiling is all over the place. Thankfully Lowry is still priced where he only needs 38 DraftKings points to hit value. He put up 35.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Kings. This is a great spot for him tonight. Just keep in mind that Lowry may not possess the upside we covet with Kahwi taking over the game.
Dark Horses:
Jeff Teague ($5,900): I know Teague underachieved on Sunday, but he was still fighting off an illness. Assuming he is closer to 100% this time around, this is a good spot for Teague. Now the bad news: In two games against the Suns this year, Teague has missed value both times. Rose is a much safer play and is only $400 more.
Jamal Crawford ($3,500): Crawford put up 18.5 DraftKings points in a revenge situation on Sunday. He still isn’t seeing a ton of minutes since the Suns are still running Melton and Okobo out there, but Crawford can put up some points in a hurry off the bench. He is worth a look while he is still playing 20 minutes a game.
My pick: Doncic(PG); N/A
DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:
Best Bets:
Devin Booker ($8,300): Booker torched Minnesota in the first meeting, but he put up pedestrian numbers for the price on Sunday. It wasn’t a bad game for Booker by any means, but his price is to the point where we are going to be disappointed with a 32. With the venue shift to Phoenix, it’s possible that Booker gets closer to value tonight.
Buddy Hield ($6,900): Hield put up a strong 38.5 DraftKings points on Toronto in the first meeting. After a slow start to 2019, Hield seems to be picking back up lately. He wasn’t all that good against the Nets, but we can forgive that. It wasn’t a great matchup. This one looks better.
Honorable Mention:
Derrick Rose ($6,300): Rose dropped 40 on Phoenix Sunday in Minneapolis, so he looks like a bargain here tonight. Not only that, but Rose played some really good defense on Booker. I see a lot of reasons to slide from Booker down to Rose, but Rose doesn’t have the huge upside that Booker still does. Still, Rose has been over 5x value even at this price in seven of the last ten games. Two of those were against the Suns.
Patrick Beverley ($4,800): Beverly played a whopping 42 minutes on Sunday against the Spurs and did his best Lou Williams impression, lighting up the Spurs for 53.5 DraftKings points. With Williams already ruled out again, it takes the guesswork out of this one. Beverley is going to see big minutes at a low price again, especially with Gallinari out for a couple of weeks.
Dark Horses:
Avery Bradley ($4,000): With both Williams and Gallnari out, are plenty of minutes and shots to go around. Bradley played 41 minutes and racked up 29.75 DraftKings points. Beverley has more upside since he can play the point as well, but both Bradley and Beverley are the bargain hunter’s version of the Killer B’s tonight.
Terrance Ferguson ($3,700): Ferguson was finally held under 20 DraftKings points, but it was because he only played 20 minutes in the blowout win over the Knicks. Ferguson has become quite the sniper for the Thunder, nailing 12 threes over the last three games. He is a nice value play again tonight with Portland in town.
My pick: Beverley(SG), Bradley(G), Ferguson(F); Beverley(SG), Rose(PG)
Best Bets:
Paul George ($9,700): George put up 53 DraftKings points on the Blazers the first time around. They still can’t guard forwards, and George has only been under 40 DraftKings points once in January. George has cleared 50 five times in that span. George could be the best play of the night if Towns weren’t playing the Suns.
Kawhi Leonard ($9,300): Leonard put up 41.75 DraftKings points in just 31 minutes against the Kings the first time around. Sacramento has been hanging around in games longer than they did early on, so if the Kings keep this close, Kawhi is going to hit 50 without much of a problem. I don’t know that I would play Kawhi over George, but I will definitely have some exposure to both in the same lineup.
Honorable Mention:
Kelly Oubre ($5,600): Who is slowing Oubre down? He seems locked into 30 minutes per game and has not been under 30 DraftKings points since January 9th. Oubre put up 33 against Minnesota on Sunday. He should be right around that mark again tonight.
Bogdan Bogdanovic ($5,200): Bogdan erupted on the Nets for 50.5 DraftKings points yesterday, and he cut a swath out of Hield’s minutes in the process. There is always a chance that this happens, but I’m not all that worried about it tonight. If Bogdan and Hield play together, Bogdan will have to deal with Kawhi, so his upside isn’t nearly the same. I like this a lot more if Bogdanovic is on the floor without Hield.
Dark Horses:
Wesley Matthews ($4,400): Matthews has finally worked his way back up to 30 minutes, and is it paying dividends for Dallas. Matthews put up an impressive 38.75 DraftKings points yesterday against the Bucks. I am a little nervous with Smith scheduled to make his return tonight, but this is a really good matchup for Matthews and the Dallas guards, so he is at least worth mentioning.
Dorian Finney-Smith ($3,700): DFS has seen his minutes crawl back up lately to the point where I’m thinking about using him again. He has at least 20 DraftKings points in three of the last four games while topping 20 minutes in five straight. I’m a little worried about how many minutes Dennis Smith is going to steal, but with Doncic mainly running the point, it has opened up minutes for DFS and Matthews on the wings.
My pick: N/A; George(SF), Matthews(G)
DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
Tobias Harris ($8,000): Forget the first two games against Dallas. They mean nothing here. Harris put up a whopping 60.75 DraftKings points in what was supposed to be a tough matchup against the Spurs on Sunday. Dallas isn’t an ideal matchup either, but Harris is the offense with Gallinari and Lou Williams out. Harris was one assist and one rebound away from a triple double on Sunday as he did pretty much everything for the Clippers. Expect much of the same tonight.
Pascal Siakam ($6,300): Siakam put up 29.75 DraftKings points in the first meeting, and he has only gotten better since then. Only Boston and a Brooklyn blowout have held Siakam under 30 DraftKings points since Christmas. We have seen the ceiling as well, with him topping 45 twice and 50 one other time in that span. This looks like one of those nights!
Honorable Mention:
T.J. Warren ($5,700): The short handed Suns have been running Warren at the four lately, and he just keeps right on producing. Warren has at least 25 DraftKings points in every game since January 2nd. The minutes load has been at least 35 a night, so I don’t really see why Warren’s price is this low. He is a strong mid range play here.
Harrison Barnes ($5,500): Barnes has 66 DraftKings points in the two games against the Clippers this year. With the Clippers short handed, there’s no reason to think Barnes can’t get 6x value again here. What’s 6x his value? Exactly 33 DraftKings points, which is what he has averaged against the Clippers this year. How fitting.
Jerami Grant ($5,300): Grant is pretty much a lock for 30 DraftKings points. He is getting all those minutes that were going to Patterson earlier in the year. Now Grant’s low mark in minutes in January is 28, which was also against Portland. There is some risk here, but he could come at lower ownership with all of the good mid range options available.
Dark Horses:
Al-Farouq Aminu ($5,100): Aminu has been playing at a high level lately anyway. He racked up 40.25 DraftKings points on the Thunder the first time around. He may not haul down 15 rebounds again, but a double double is easily within reach for Aminu. That’s great production for this price.
Quincy Acy ($3,500): I’m only really a fan of Acy if both Holmes and Ayton are out again. It looks likely that Ayton is not in, but he Suns are a little more optimistic about Holmes. If Holmes plays, he is going to take at least 20 minutes for himself. That would leave Acy with 10-12 minutes, which isn’t nearly enough for him to hit value.
My pick: Harris(SF); Harris(PF), Siakam(F)
Best Bet:
Karl-Anthony Towns ($10,600): A blowout was a legitimate concern for me on Sunday, but I played Towns anyway. Phoenix kept it close, Towns dropped a 60, and I hit some money. I’m looking for a repeat here. Towns even had an off night and still dominated. 60 could be his floor against the Suns.
Jusuf Nurkic ($7,500): Nurkic usually isn’t a guy I chase after in situations like this, but he did put up 40.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting against Adams and the Thunder. Nurkic is also riding a streak of three straight games of more than 40 DraftKings points against some decent teams in Utah, Cleveland, and New Orleans. I think he has a pretty good chance of doing it again here.

Honorable Mention:
Montrezl Harrell ($6,800): Harrell has racked up 77.5 DraftKings points in just 52 minutes against Dallas this year. Expect another big game from Harrell here. It could be even bigger if Harrell starts and actually plays starters minutes. So far he hasn’t been above what he was playing on the bench.
DeAndre Jordan ($6,400): Jordan has beaten the Clippers like a tied up goat in both meetings this year. That’s 102.25 DraftKings points on his former team in just 66 minutes. Jordan is going to perform like a top level player for a mid level price.
Willie Cauley-Stein ($6,100): WCS manhandled Toronto for 43.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting. There are so many good options at center again, how do we choose? Well, WCS only has 45 DraftKings points over the last two games combined. One of those was against the Nets. That really makes me nervous.
Dark Horses:
Serge Ibaka ($5,900): Ibaka put up 38.5 DraftKings points in only 28 minutes in the first meeting. The Kings have been bad up front. I expect the Toronto bigs to come up huge if the Kings hang around. If not, it could be a somewhat disappointing night for any of the Toronto starters.
Dragan Bender ($4,000): Bender started and racked up 30.5 DraftKings points against Minnesota on Sunday. With Ayton doubtful and Holmes questionable, Bender should get significant run again tonight. Even if Holmes does play, I would expect Bender to get the start. The only way I move off of Bender is if Ayton plays.
My pick: Towns(C), Jordan(UTIL), Bender(PF); Jordan(C), Bender(UTIL)
