The standouts from the first day of the Senior Bowl, including quarterback Drew Lock who is making himself a lot of money.

With the more experienced players in this year’s draft class getting valuable coaching from the Cardinals and Raiders staffs, the Senior Bowl started off with a great showcase of talent and ability from both teams, and on both sides of the ball.

There was a lot of excitement about this year’s class coming into the practice week in Mobile, and the two teams didn’t disappoint. From backflips to bull rushes, this year’s class impressed on day one.

Let’s break down some guys I thought impressed the most and made themselves some money on the first day of the Senior Bowl.

5. Deebo Samuel, Wide Receiver, South Carolina (North Team)

There’s just something about Deebo Samuel. I enjoy watching wide receivers in general, and though he may not be the fastest or tallest receiver in this year’s class, he is definitely one of the most fun to watch. There’s something about him, call it an ā€œitā€ factor, or whatever you will. Samuel excels at high pointing tough catches and makes some jaw-dropping grabs in tight coverage. That didn’t change today, and many in attendance noted him as one of the top performances on the day.

Samuel is known for his quickness and agility, and he put it on display for today’s one-on-one drills. Samuel was winning over and over when the North team’s quarterbacks put the ball on target and showcased plus hands and plus ability to get separation on some crisply run routes.

With a few more solid practices, Samuel could continue to see his stock rise in this year’s NFL Draft. Samuel is a name to watch going forward, as with plus speed and a knack for route running, he has the potential to make an impact in the NFL from day one.
