Welcome back readers of FantasyCPR, we are back with PGA DFS content, Torrey Pines! Golf season had a fun three weeks start, however, this is going to be a lot better week than the previous three. The course can beat up the best of them, birdies are going to be difficult to get, where we had a three weeks of birdie fest courses.

PGA DFS Course Preview:

We are headed to Torrey Pines this week for the Farmers Insurance Open and some mid-week PGA DFS. We have two different courses; the North and the South Course. The South course is the course that will host three rounds of the tournament and is the longest course on the PGA tour. The North Course plays slightly easier than the South course, although it played more difficult than the previous years.

The South Course is a Par 72 7,707 yards from the pro tees. This course is a giant with small to narrow fairways and slightly behind average greens. Players are going to miss greens, players are going to struggle to make birdies due to the distance and difficult of narrow fairways. Scores are going to be generally close to par.

The North Course is more playable at a Par 72 7258 yards from the pro tees. The North Course is more attackable than the South Course. However, all golfers will only play this course one-time and it’s important that these golfers go low on this course to help them make a the cut.

PGA DFS Cash Game Plays:

Tony Finau, ($9,900)

Starting my cash games with Tony Finau this week. I expect Finau to be extremely popular this week as Torrey Pines fits him really well and the fact that he loves playing here. Finau has played here each of the last four years and he has posted four top-25’s and two top-10’s. Start your cash games with Finau this week.

Charles Howell, ($9,100)

The beauty of about starting your cash games with Tony Finau is there is enough money to also plug in Charles Howell into our cash games as well. Charles Howell plays this course extremely well, making the cut each of the last 16 years and he has posted 5 top-10’s and two more top-25’s. Start your cash games with Finau and Howell and that leaves us with $7,900 left per position.

Brant Snedeker, ($8,400)

Snedeker is going to be popular because of the strong course history, but even more Snedeker checks the box for me as a guy that has been playing heading into the course. Posting two-top-25’s in Hawaii, a lot of people are going to be one this one with 6 top-10’s including 2 victories and 2 runner-ups in 10-years. Snedeker likely going to be a fade for me in tournaments this week, but course history is leading me to playing Snedeker this week in cash games.

Other potential plays for cash games:

Patrick Cantlay ($9,200); Mark Leishman ($9,700); Abraham Ancer ($8,200); Emiliano Grillo ($8,100); Gary Woodland, ($9,000); Sung-Jae Im ($7,800); J.J. Spaun ($7,300); Keith Mitchell ($7,000)

Overall thoughts:

In cash games this week I will be fading the top-5 guys in terms of salary and starting my lineups with a balanced approach. I really like the $9,000 range, would not mind targeting trying to jam in three guys on that range into lineups. Feel like that is the safest build this week.

PGA DFS Tournaments Core Plays:

Tiger Woods, ($10,500)

There are two kinds of people in the world, people who just play Tiger regardless of price, course fit or recent form and then there are the people who fade Tiger because they do not like this guy. Tiger lovers, this is the week we can play him with no consequences. Tiger loves Torrey Pines, as he has won 8 times over the course of his career. Tiger has the second best odds to win this event! I will not do it in cash games but with lower winning scores, Tiger is going to be competitive this week and I am going to half tournament exposure. Want to add, I will not have 100% of Tiger Woods in tournaments, I do not do that for golf. Only thing that gives me pause on Tiger is we have really yet to see him and he isn’t the best off the tee.

More from FanSided

Justin Rose, ($10,800)

My pivot to Tiger Woods. $600 less than Jon Rahm, and I will gladly take the discount. Rose can win this event, actually feel like this is his week. Rose changed clubs but he played with them last week and he played okay. I expect him to bounce back this week and win this event. Rose hit a lot of shots to prep for this week at the Desert Classic. I expect Rose to compete, win and be decently lower owned.

Rickie Fowler, (9,300)

Fowler has been brutal at this event and I promise you, I have used him each of the last four years at this event. Fowler has missed four and the last five cuts here with a 61st as the lone made cut. I think people are going to see the course history and fade this play. I am going to play around 20% and hopefully I can get some leverage on the field if he finishes in the top-5, which is something that he’s never done. However, I do like his game here.

Gary Woodland ($9,000)

All things considered, he’s cash game playable but he was chalk two weeks ago and people got burned with the missed cut. Woodland plays well at Torrey Pines, hoping that the missed cut scares some people away. Woodland has two 3 top-20’s here in each of the last three years. I think he’s got a decent shot to win here. Woodland is one of my favorite plays in tournaments, as I believe he is a core play for me.

Hideki Matsuyama ($8,000)

DraftKings missed this one. $8,000 for Hideki? Hideki is really good at approach with long irons, short irons, that’s what I’m looking for this week. Slightly worried about Hideki hitting fairways, but I think Hideki has a really good chance at a top-10 this week potentially even compete. The price is way too low, I do not 100-percent lock button golfers, but I’m really tempted this week with Hideki. We’ve seen Hideki one time this year, the first three rounds Hideki was 9-under par, then on Sunday he fell apart and posted a

3-over (73). I’m not really looking at the T-51 as meaning anything last week.

Keith Mitchell, ($7,000)

Mitchell might get cut, but he is probably my favorite lower priced guy this week. I’m considering Mitchell in cash games this week, but he is probably a tournament only play. I like Mitchell a lot this week as he can drive the ball fairly long, which ranks out decently here and he actually has been putting better recently too. Top-20 two weeks ago, despite a horrible Sunday at the Sony Open. I like Mitchell this week as a flyer.

Overall Tournament  Thoughts:

The cash game approach for this tournament is a balance approaching, jamming in as many $8,000 guys as we can. In tournaments I want to dabble into the top-tier of guys. I will have some balance lineups, but in tournaments I do like starting my lineups with Justin Rose and building down. The issue with taking a flyer on Rose is that you have to gamble on some of these lower $7,000 guys.
