Jeff Bridges return as The Dude really tied Twitter together

The Dude returns as Jeff Bridges takes Twitter by storm to tease a mysterious new project for our slacker hero but what exactly is it?
Look, man, I’ve got certain information, all right? Certain things have come to light. And, you know, has it ever occurred to you that Jeff Bridges may just reprise his role as “The Dude?”
If you’re like most of us living day-to-day in a world that does not abide then you probably wouldn’t expect it. It’s been a little over 20 years since The Big Lebowski landed in theaters and became the very definition of a cult classic. A slow burn that gains life anew with each passing year, springing up churches and dudeisms and annual Lebowski-fests, it’s one of those rare films that found it wasn’t out of its element as time went on.
With today’s hyper-sequel-reboot climate, it leaves one to wonder how The Big Lebowski never got a second take in the first place. But when approached by Variety in 2016 the Joel Cohen stated, “Tara Reid likes to announce that just like [George] Clooney likes to announce ‘Hail, Caesar!,” referencing how Clooney pushed them to write their latest script by telling the press that it was his next project. “In this case, I don’t think we’ll oblige.”
Fast forward to 2019, and the academy award-winning actor had a big reveal for us on his Twitter account:
In a span of 15 seconds, El Duderino broke the internet and sent his dude acolytes into a frenzy. Panning through the scene, Bob Dylan’s, The Man In Me, lalala-ing its way to visions of broken crockery, familiar jellies and “that” printed sweater adorned like the Dude’s cape. Then the scene cuts to the street with a tumbleweed rolling by and the numbers 2.3.19 appearing across the screen.
Bridges captioned the tweet with, “Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned.
Most speculation centers around the date. After all, that’s when Super Bowl LIII (53) is on the airwaves. The Dude may be appearing in a Superbowl ad, perhaps for a Vodka brand (White Russian anyone?) or some other hijinks.
Other speculation could revolve around the character of Jesus Quintana. John Toturo’s reprisal has been rumored to be making it to the big screen this year in Going Places. The film wouldn’t necessarily act as a sequel to the Coen Brothers’ picture but more of a spin-off. Bridges had expressed some interest in making a cameo in the film.
Either way it’s hard to believe a Big Lebowski sequel could stay under wraps this long. It’s unlikely that Dude, Walter, Maude or others will be taking their adventures sans Donny but, yeah, well, that’s just our opinion, man.
