Steve Martin roasted Roger Stone in SNL cold open

SNL is back in full swing, and so too are the cold opens that skewer the Trump Administration with grand catharsis.

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live cold open was a stone cold stunner.

There were a number of different directions the show could have gone with how to make fun of the Trump administration.

An easy prediction was that the cold open might tackle the government shutdown, specifically something about how New Yorkers played a role in ending it. LaGuardia deciding to halt traffic into New York due to the shutdown was something the prompted Trump to a few hours later announce a deal that would open the federal government for the next three weeks.

Something revolving around this seemed ideal for the cold open.

While it didn’t focus on New Yorkers, SNL barbed Fox News — again.

Alex Moffat rolled out his Tucker Carlson impression, Cecily Strong brought back her Judge Jeanine Pirro, and Wilbur Ross was portrayed by Kate McKinnon. Steve Martin was the highlight, though, playing Roger Stone to near perfection. It was a mix between Will Ferrell’s Harry Carey impression and what Stone actually sounds and acts like.

It was brilliant and watching Martin devour his time was a thing of joy.

Martin adds his name to the growing list of famous actors and comedians who have come to SNL to play different members of Trump’s cabinet.
