Espanyol face Real Madrid at RCDE Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 27. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The title race in La Liga appears to be a two-horse race between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Real Madrid enter the weekend in third place, 10 points behind Barcelona. On Sunday, 13th-place Espanyol host Real at RCDE Stadium.
After 11 games, Espanyol were fifth in the table and reached as high as third. Since their 11th game of the season, Espanyol have dropped down the table. The Budgerigars have lost eight of their last nine games and were outscored 22-6 over that stretch. The losing streak figures to continue for Espanyol against Real Madrid. If Rubi’s team are going to pick up a point against Madrid, they will need a strong performance from Borja Iglesias. The Budgerigars bought Iglesias before the season and has been well worth the investment, scoring a team-best nine goals.
Real have won two straight games after beating Sevilla 2-0. Santiago Solari got Karim Benzema back against Sevilla after he was forced off with an injury in the previous game. Benzema leads the club with seven goals this season and will have to play an even bigger role with Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio out with injuries. Despite the injuries, Santiago Solari refuses to start Isco, who remains one of Madrid’s best players. Immediately after bringing Isco on against Sevilla, Real scored twice to pick up all three points. It would be wise for Solari to insert Isco into the starting XI alongside Benzema.
