DraftKings NBA Picks January 28: Is Jokic the best play?
There are only five games for our DraftKings NBA tournaments after a Sunday that the NBA finally had all to themselves. I didn’t get time to put up an article yesterday, but I did manage to put a couple of lineups in. The early one cashed. The late ones? Not so much.

I put in solid scores of 271.5 and 266.75, but the cash line was all the way up to 291.25. My core of Rondo, KAT, and Doncic was good, but a horrible game from Waiters and a below average game from Porter was enough to keep me out.
elindy4 took it down with 369 DraftKings points. He built with Doncic, LMA, Kawhi, and Wiggins and got huge value from Ellington, Zubac, and Satoransky. He even survived a subpar game from Bam.

DraftKings NBA Point Guards:
Best Bets:
Kyrie Irving ($9,600): Irving is on a tear right now, putting up at least 60 DraftKings points in four of the last five games, including against the Warriors. The only one he missed was against Atlanta, if you can believe that. This is a great matchup against the Nets, and Kyrie is going to anchor a lot of lineups. However, Irving only had 35 DraftKings points in the first game against the Nets. He only played 27 minutes though. Teams have been hanging around with Boston lately. If the Nets do this time around, we could see Irving top 60 again.
Kemba Walker ($8,900): Walker did not practice yesterday, so there is a chance that he doesn’t play tonight. If he does, Walker has 93.75 DraftKings points in the first two games against the Knicks this season. The Hornets really have no reason to push Walker against the lowly Knicks. This is as much to highlight how much I dislike Curry against Indiana as to play Walker if he starts.
Honorable Mention:
Trae Young ($6,700): This is a great matchup for Young. He torched the Clippers for 53.25 DraftKings points in the first meeting, and honestly, his price looks too low here. Young has slowly acclimated himself to the league. He hasn’t had a truly bad game in over a month, so Young is pretty safe to use at this point. The upside tonight is huge!
Darren Collison ($5,900): We all saw what Kyrie did to the Warriors on national television on Saturday. Collison wont do that, but he has at least 30 DraftKings points in six of the last seven games. What that says is Collison was playing well even before Oladipo went down. With Oladipo out, it gives Collison a higher floor and more upside. There is very little risk here. The only thing giving me pause is that they are playing the Warriors.
Dark Horses:
Shabazz Napier ($4,600): Napier put up 18 points in the first game without Dinwiddie. That bodes well for his value going forward. I don’t like the matchup with Boston, but Napier is still too cheap for a starter. Napier is going to continue to be a big part of this offense going forward. I would even play him in this matchup.
Trey Burke ($4,200): Mudiay is still out, and Trier’s minutes have dwindled back down to 20 per game. That has left Burke as the de facto starter even though he comes off the bench. We really don’t care when the minutes come so long as he’s getting them. As with every Knick though, there is nothing but risk. This could be the game where Fizdale cuts back Burke and runs Trier. Who knows.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ($3,800): SGA is not for casual use. You can really only use him in a great matchup. Last night was, and SGA went bonkers. The Hawks are a great matchup on paper as well. However, Young has been a lot better on both ends of the court. There is a reason SGA is priced this low. Of course, it provides the potential for great value.
My pick: Irving(PG), Young(G), SGA(UTIL)
DraftKings NBA Shooting Guards:
Best Bet:
Lou Williams ($7,400): Williams dropped 38 more DraftKings points on the Kings last night, and it was still about half the total of his previous outing. LouWill went 903 games before getting his first career triple double. Chances are it wont happen again. His performance against the Kings last night is more indicative of what you will get from LouWill. However, he did put up 41.25 in the first game against the Hawks. Williams is in a good spot again tonight.
Honorable Mention:
Klay Thompson ($6,100): I kind of expect Curry to struggle here, which should open things up for Klay. The problem is that Thompson has been mostly a non factor in the last couple of games. This is a good mathcup here, but it’s also a good one for KD and Boogie. Another mouth is going to hurt the production of, well, everyone. Good luck figuring out who.
Jeremy Lamb ($5,600): Lamb has 64 DraftKings points in two games against the Knicks so far. We could see an even better output from Lamb if Kemba is out. That would make Monk a superb value, but Lamb at this price would be a very nice option as well. He’s a solid option anyway, but if Kemba is out, Lamb could border on elite.
Dark Horses:
Marcus Smart ($4,600): Smart put up 32.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Nets. The risk here is the same as it always is with any Celtic. There is so much talent on this team that you never really know who is going to go off. Smart is as good of a bet as any on this slate.
Patrick Beverley ($4,500): Beverley has put up some really big games with Gallinari out. Gallinari is close to coming back, but the consensus so far is that tonight wont be tonight. This is setting up for one more massive game for Beverley against the Hawks. The price is definitely right here.
Theo Pinson ($4,400): Pinson picked up 36 DraftKings points, by far a career high, against the Knicks over the weekend. Russell was cold, Dinwiddie was out, and that is the kind of thing that could repeat itself many times over the course of the next couple of months. As long as Crabbe and Dinwiddie are out, Pinson is a very strong value play.
My pick: Williams(SG)
DraftKings NBA Small Forwards:
Best Bets:
Tobias Harris ($8,000): Harris put up 42 DraftKings points in the first meeting with the Hawks. It hasn’t really been Harris that is putting up big numbers with Gallinari out. It has been a different collection of guards. That said, Harris it still a very strong play against the Hawks. If you are looking for the late night hammer, Harris could be it.
Will Barton ($6,900): You would think that one of the Denver guards would be a smash play with Jamal Murray out, but that wasn’t the case. Then again, it was only one game. Beasley, Craig, and Monte Morris all split time with Gary Harris and consequentially cannibalized each other’s value. Barton seems to be the only one that was largely unaffected. I think Barton is about the only Denver wing I would consider, but it’s still a poor matchup against Memphis.
Honorable Mention:
Bojan Bogdanovic ($5,600): Bogdanovic is picking up some of the scoring slack with Oladipo out, just like the first time around. Bogdanovic isn’t going to put up massive numbers. It’s just not in him. However, he’s a lock for 30 DraftKings points with Oladipo out. Until his price matches that, Bogdanovic is a solid play.
Taurean Prince ($5,400): Prince put up 31.5 DraftKings points in the first meeting against the Clippers. He is playing well with Bazemore out, but Prince still isn’t putting up the big numbers that he did earlier in the season. Prince returned to the bench and played 36 minutes on Saturday. So the defined roles don’t really matter. I would feel a lot better of Huerter is limited.
Dark Horses:
Nicolas Batum ($4,900): Batum can go cold at any time. We have seen it time and time again. However, Batum does have at least 20 DraftKings points in six straight and nine of the last 11 games. The minutes are always there for Batum. The production is hit and miss, but if Walker is out, it should all hit.
Justin Holiday ($4,500): Holiday put up 33.25 DraftKings points against Denver while he was still with the Bulls. Holiday isn’t putting up the numbers that he did while in Chicago. That’s just not his role on this team. Holiday is playing a lot of minutes with Kyle Anderson out, so he has a pretty good floor. That’s about it though.
My pick: Bogdanovic(SF), Batum(F)
DraftKings NBA Power Forwards:
Best Bets:
John Collins ($8,200): Collins had 31.75 DraftKings points in the first game against the Clippers in just 20 minutes. Collins has not been under 30 DraftKings points in nearly a month. He has a good floor and we all know what the upside can be. This game is the one that really intrigues me for some reason. Collins is at the center of that build.
Draymond Green ($6,300): I do like Green at this price considering he has more than 33 DraftKings points in eight of the last 11 games. Once again, I’m more after the mid range Warriors. I’m not sure I want to pay up for Curry and Durant here. Green an Cousins could be more productive for the price.
Honorable Mention:
Noah Vonleh ($6,200): Vonleh racked up 71.75 DraftKings points in the first two games against Charlotte. This Charlotte front is still very weak, and this is a spot for Vonleh to put up some big numbers. With Kornet out and Fizdale for some reason not playing Kanter, there’s going to be a ton of minutes for Vonleh.
Jayson Tatum ($5,600): Tatum put up 86.25 DraftKings points in the two games against Brooklyn so far this year. All of that in just 62 minutes. Tatum is definitely one of the higher upside plays of the night. We all know what the risk is in using any Boston player though. Is it worth the risk?
Dark Horses:
Marvin Williams ($5,300): Williams has 58 DraftKings points in the two games against the Knicks so far. The minutes are back up for Williams, and this is a matchup that you definitely want to consider him in. The price on Williams is a little offputting. There are better options for the price, even on a small slate.
Marcus Morris ($4,900): The upside on Morris isn’t all that big with him coming off the bench, but Morris is still seeing anywhere from 25 to 32 minutes per game. That kind of playing time could yield very big output agianst the Nets. The more likely scenario is that Morris winds up in the 20’s for DraftKings points.
My pick: N/A
Best Bets:
Nikola Jokic ($10,800): Jokic is the highest priced player on the slate by quite a margin tonight and there is no way that I’m paying for him. Why? Jokic has only 77.25 DraftKings points in two games against Memphis this year. To put that in perspective, Jokic had more than that against the Embiid-less Sixers on Saturday. There is a chance that he blows up on Memphis, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
Montrezl Harrell ($7,100): Harrell destroyed the Hawks for 55.25 DraftKings points in 31 minutes. I haven’t played Harrell in a while because of the price. However, considering what he did to the Hawks the first time, I would be willing to consider him. Now the bad news: Harrell hasn’t hit value at this price in eight games.

Honorable Mention:
DeMarcus Cousins ($6,500): Cousins has been a force even in limited minutes for the Warriors so far. Yes, the rich got richer. Cousins still hasn’t topped 24 minutes in any game since his return. Cousins needs 32.5 DraftKings points to hit 5x value. That total is very possible, but the upside is capped because there is still a minutes limit.
Al Horford ($6,400): Horford is playing the Nets! Why am I not as exciting as usual? Horford only has 50.25 DraftKings points in two games against the Nets this season. We know the upside of centers against the Nets, but I really don’t trust this.
Dark Horses:
Dewayne Dedmon ($5,500): Dedmon put up 34.5 DraftKings points in 24 minutes against the Clippers in the first meeting. Dedmon is putting up some good numbers for the price lately, but the Hawks never play him more than 28 minutes. That caps the upside, which seems to be the theme at center tonight.
Jarrett Allen ($5,500): Allen put up 69.5 DraftKings points in two meetings against the Celtics. This doesn’t look like a great spot for Allen, but the history shows that it isn’t a bad one either. I think I like Dedmon better, but you could use both if you need the capital.
My pick: Dedmon(PF), Vonleh(C)
