NHL DFS Man Advantage Monday January 28th
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Monday January 28th 2019! Welcome back from the All Star break! I hope those of you who played the All Star game contests on DraftKings had a lucrative Saturday night but now it’s back to regular hard-hitting NHL hockey. Tonight we get a tiny 2 game slate in the state of Pennsylvania with 2 games that look lopsided on paper, but might not be on the ice.
Tonight’s NHL DFS schedule:
7PM EST:
Winnipeg @ Philadelphia
New Jersey @ Pittsburgh
NHL DFS Goalies:
My top goalie tonight is Penguin starter, Matt Murray ($8,300). Murray is a winner of 10 of his 11 starts since his return from injury on December 15th and gets matchup with a Devil team that beat him 5-1 in his last start against them. On the season Murray has a stellar 2.86 GAA and a .913 SV%. In his career against New Jersey Murray is 5-1-1 and I have a good feeling he will add a 6th win to that total tonight.
Most people will be on Murray tonight so a good pivot, especially in GPP’s, will be Carter Hart ($7,400). The Flyers rookie has had a pretty good start to his career playing on a pretty bad team. Hart has won his last 3 starts allowing only 9 goals in those 3 games and stopping 106 of 115 shots faced and with an average of 38.3 S/FG. Facing a first place Winnipeg team will keep a lot of people from playing Hart making him my top GPP pivot.
NHL DFS Top Forwards:
Sidney Crosby ($7,300) – The 2019 All Star game MVP is looking to ride his momentum from the game back into the regular season. Coming in to the break Crosby was in a slump, well a slump for Crosby that is, with only 4 goals and 7 assists in his last 10. Crosby has 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games against the Devils. One of the top line stacks on this small slate is also Pittsburgh 1 with Crosby, Jake Guentzel, and Bryan Rust.
Blake Wheeler ($7,200) – Wheeler came into the All Star break with 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games prior. In the same 5 game span Wheeler also has 23 SOG and is averaging 5.5 FPPG. Fellow All Star and linemate Mark Scheifele ($7,100) is an option to pair with Wheeler for an expensive mini stack, and I’ll have more on the 3rd member of the top line in a bit.
Phil Kessel ($6,300) – Kessel went into the break with 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 and is averaging 4.4 FPPG. In 2 games against the Devils this season Kessel has 1 goal and an assist and is averaging 3.5 FPPG. We will need to check out the lines after morning skate and see if Kessel is skating on the Pens 2nd line, if he isn’t he is still a good play as a PP stack with Crosby, Malkin, and Letang.
Kyle Connor ($6,000) – Connor may be the hottest Jet coming out of the break with 6 goals and 3 assists in the Jets last 8 games prior. As I mentioned earlier, Connor is the 3rd member of Winnipeg’s top line and might be favorite of the 3 to use tonight because of the point potential he has combined with the value price.
Jakub Voracek ($5,300) – Ok, enough of the Penguins and Jets for a minute. Voracek isn’t having his best year but does have a goal and 6 assists in the Flyers last 6 games before the All Star break while averaging 3.75 FPPG in that span. I do prefer Voracek as a one-off play for cash, but for GPP you could stack with one or both of Oskar Lindblom and Sean Couturier.
Jesper Bratt ($4,100) – Bratt had a goal and an assist in the Devils last game before the All Star break against Anaheim on January 19. Before that offensive outburst Bratt only had 2 assist in the Devils previous 3 games. There isn’t a ton of good value on such a small slate, but Bratt offers some upside.
NHL DFS Top Defensemen:
Pay Up Dman:
Shayne Gostisbehere ($4,700) – Defense is kind of bare tonight at the top, with the exception of Kris Letang ($6,100). Since most people will gravitate to him when paying up for a Dman, I was trying to find someone else to us, and landed on Ghost. In his last 3 games Gostisbehere has 3 assists as well as logging over 3 FPPG. Ghost plays on the Flyers 2nd D pair and 2nd PP unit as well.

Other options: Letang, Jacob Trouba ($5,100)
Pay Down Dman:
Marcus Pettersson ($3,200) – Pettersson had 5 game assists streak earlier in January but has since cooled off with only 1 assist since his streak ended. Even without putting up much in the point department Pettersson has been putting up fantasy points. In the Penguins last 3 games Pettersson has 12 blocked shots and averaging near 3 FPPG. Pettersson plays on the Pens 3rd D pair, but also the teams 2nd PP unit. Another value Dman from the Pens is Pettersson’s partner on the PP, Juuso Riikola ($2,700)
NHL DFS Line Stacks: (In NO particular order)
Pittsburgh 2
New Jersey 2
Philadelphia 1
Winnipeg 1 and 2
