3. Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic’s arrival has reinvigorated the Mavericks; the team is going through a period of change as they build around their new young star, so there’s no time like the present for them to take a chance on a player like Jabari Parker.

Parker’s current contract has a team option for next season, so the Mavs could use the rest of this year as a tryout period for him. If he meshes well with Luka they’ve strengthened their roster going into the 2019-20 season, and if he doesn’t they can just let him go; it’s a low-risk pickup with major potential upside.

Parker looks like a good fit for the Mavs roster as it’s currently constructed. His best season came in 2016-17 when the majority of his looks came close to the basket; the Mavs shoot a high volume of 3s, so Jabari would be able to take advantage of a stretched out defense and do some real damage in the paint.

Also, Parker has never played with an elite point guard like Luka on the NBA level, so putting them together in the same system would really give him a chance to unlock his true potential. If this is how things work out, and Parker is able to return to form, he could become a real part of the Mavericks’ long term plans.

It’s easy to forget that he’s only 23 because he’s been in the basketball public eye for so long. In reality, he’s still a young player whose prime is yet to come. He and Luka play with such different styles that they can surely coexist and grow together, which makes taking a risk on Jabari a very tempting proposition.
