NHL DFS Man Advantage Friday February 1
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Friday night February 1st! Tonight we get back to a full slate with 8 games on the schedule for tonight. It is an interesting slate in that we don’t have a ton of a great value available with this many teams, but I dug and did come up with some players I think could turn in some good performances that could help you win.
Tonight’s NHL DFS schedule:
7PM:
Chicago @ Buffalo
Tampa Bay @ NY Islanders
Ottawa @ Pittsburgh
Nashville @ Florida
Calgary @ Washington
7:30PM
Vegas @ Carolina
Toronto @ Detroit
8PM:
Minnesota @ Dallas
NHL DFS Goalies:
As I mentioned in my open there isn’t a ton of value and that is definitely evident at goalie tonight with the least expensive usable goalie (in my opinion) David Rittich ($7,800) against the Ovechkin-less Caps.
My top choice in is Linus Ullmark ($8,300) in a home game against Chicago. Buffalo’s 25-year-old stud netminder has been outperforming Carter Hutton of late. I am only interested in Ullmark, if Hutton gets the start I am off the goalies in this game and instead become very interested in stacking this game offensively.
Matt Murray ($8,200) at home against Ottawa on Friday is my 2nd choice in net for the night. Murray is now 11-2-0 with a .934 save percentage since returning from injury in mid-December and played outstanding in shutting down the league’s top offense in a 4-2 win Wednesday against Tampa.
Lastly, I like whoever ends up between the pipes for Dallas on Friday. Both Ben Bishop ($7,900) and Anton Khudobin ($7,700) are viable in a winnable matchup with Minnesota. Bishop earned a shutout in last start on Wednesday against Buffalo. Khudobin has a shutout, and 7 total goals allowed in his last 5 starts.
NHL DFS Top Forwards:
Top Tier:
Patrick Kane ($7,800) – Kane is great, and has been great all season for Chicago. Like I mentioned earlier, if Ullmark starts I will most likely be off Chicago, but if Hutton is in net, fire up the Blackhawks.
Mitch Marner ($7,100) – Marner comes back from the All Star break well rested, after being an All Star snub this season. In 10 January games Marner scored 7 times and also added 2 assists and will look to keep his hot scoring touch going in February. Marner along with linemates Auston Matthews and Patrick Marleau are a pretty good stack.
Dylan Larkin ($6,700) – Larkin has found playing the Maple Leafs a welcome sight this season. In 4 games against the Leafs, Larkin has 2 goals and 2 assists and is averaging 5.8 FPPG. Larkin also has 3 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games before the All Star break.
Mid Tier:
Alex Tuch ($6,100) – Tuch comes back from the All Star break with points in 9 of his previous 10 games totaling 3 goals and 7 assists in that span. Vegas 2 is a great stack as well with Tuch, Paul Stastny, and Max Pacioretty.
Eric Staal ($5,600) – In two games against Dallas this season Staal has 2 assists and is averaging 3.8 FPPG. Staal also has 3 and 3 assists in his last 3 games before the All Star break and averaged just under 7 FPPG in that span.
T.J. Oshie ($5,400) – Oshie has been the one bright spot for Washington over their 7 game losing streak. Also, with Ovechkin having to sit this game out someone will need to pick up his production. In his last 3 games Oshie has 1 goal and 6 assists as well as averaging 6.8 FPPG.
Value Tier:
Jamie Benn ($4,900) – Benn is having a down year and his price reflects it, but this is the beauty of daily fantasy sports, a player can have a down year but be having a good couple of games and become usable for a period of time. Benn has points in back to back games for Dallas, including scoring the only goal in a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday and is averaging 4.5 FPPG against Minnesota this season. With Benn’s low price using him with Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov could be a nice stack tonight
Nick Bonino ($4,200) – Bonino is having a career year for the Preds this season with 14 goals and 13 assists surpassing his 25 point total in 71 games last season. In his last 5 games before the break Bonino has 5 goals and 2 assists as well as averaging 5.3 FPPG.
($3,300) – Smith comes out of the break looking to start a new point streak his 5 game assist streak ended in the Senators last game before the All Star break. During his 5 game assist streak Smith averaged just under 3 FPPG while playing on the 3rd line for Ottawa.
NHL DFS Defensemen :
Pay Up Dman:
Victor Hedman ($5,600) – Hedman comes out of the break with a 3 game point streak with 2 goals and 3 assists during his streak. Hedman plays top D pair minutes for the Lightning while also captaining the team’s top PP unit.

Other options: Kris Letang ($6,200) Roman Josi ($5,700)
Pay Down Dman:
Marcus Pettersson ($3,200) – I have written up Pettersson a lot but he has been productive and it’s hard to find good production at this low price so I will continue to talk about him until proven other wise. Wednesday was Pettersson’s first 0 fantasy point output during the month of January and he only has 3 (including Wed) with less than 2.5 points. Pettersson also sees minutes on the Pens second PP unit.
Other options: Dylan Demelo ($3,400) Noah Hanafin ($3,500)
