Justice League Annual #1 is an intense roller coaster of a story that brings past and present together in a collision that will pave the way for the future.

Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV know how to pack a huge punch inside one issue, and with Justice League Annual #1 they’re wrapping up the first act of their Justice League story with a new adventure that will lead to Phase 2 in Justice League #17.

Be ready to see old friends coming together in an attempt to repair the damage to the Multiverse after the events of Justice League: No Justice. It’s an ambitious plan with the fate of the future hanging in the balance.

This review contains spoilers for Justice League Annual #1.

Remember those Omega Titans from the Justice League: No Justice miniseries? Well, they’re back. As the heroes venture to the farthest reaches of the galaxy to the edge of the Source Wall, the three remaining Omega Titans — Wonder, Wisdom and Mystery — are brought together in an attempt to repair the damaged Multiverse.

Starman reveals that Hawkgirl ties into the equation and had she been present earlier things might have turned out differently. She has a connection to the wall and the Omega Titans and she might be able to fill the void left by the dead Entropy Titan and repair the wall.

Sounds easy enough, right?

Naturally, it’s a whole lot more complicated than that. Best laid plans, and all. They almost got away with it, if not for the pesky Legion of Doom.

Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom have something to say about repairing the Source Wall and they have a old friend with them who was thought to be dead. Luthor wants to use Kendra’s power to ignite the Totality and resurrect Perpetua. And when she awakens, it’s a whole new ballgame.

Justice League Annual #1 takes one step closer to the second act of the bigger story. With the Source Wall gone and Perpetua in grip of the Legion of Doom, chaos is about to reign across the galaxy.

For casual fans, there’s a lot to take in with this story. You almost need to take notes. If you haven’t been following along you might need to go back and review No Justice and the past few issues of Justice League to figure out how the story ended up here. There are special guest appearances and references to things that happened in No Justice that are critical to understanding the plot. One thing is for sure, though: This new story is going to melt minds. It’s massive and it’s a game-changer for the Rebirth universe.
