Season 9 of Shameless on Showtime is in full swing, and we are getting episodes of the popular dramedy every Sunday night.
However, this Sunday night happens to fall on the same day as the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams, and many Sunday series are taking the night off to avoid getting dominated in the ratings.
So will there be a new episode of Shameless on Super Bowl Sunday?
Unfortunately, there will not be a new episode of Shameless on Super Bowl Sunday. This makes sense, as the Super Bowl completely dominates ratings and the network does not want to potentially hurt their overall numbers just by keeping a weekly schedule steady.

However, it should be noted that subscription networks like Showtime get a lot of ratings from DVR and online viewership. In fact, many of their series (including Shameless) nearly or more than double their ratings once the DVR and online numbers are added it.
It would make sense for Showtime to continue to air Shameless new episodes despite the Super Bowl occurring on the same day, but the move to skip this week is completely understandable.
