It’s a lonely feeling for some Los Angeles fans amid a sea of New England backers, unlike the Super Bowl from 2018 vs. Philly
This might have been a homecoming for Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay, but it was hardly a house party for his team.
Patriots fans outnumbered Rams fans by more than 6-to-1 in a quick, unscientific study by FanSided.com. During one quick tour around the stadium, there were 507 fans in Patriots jerseys of varying types. Mostly Brady. A lot of Gronkowski. A healthy dose Edelman and the occasional Law or even Grogan.
By contrast, there were 76 fans in Rams jerseys, split pretty equally among Goff and Gurley with a lot of Dickerson, a handful of Youngblood, a few Warner and even an Everett.
To one Rams fan, it had the feeling of a home game from another perspective.
“Actually, this feels like a home game at the Coliseum,” said Rams fan Scott Silsbee, a law enforcement officer who has live in California his whole life. “Whenever we have these teams with great dynasties show up, they always seem to have more jerseys in the stands than we do … if it’s Green Bay, Seattle, the Patriots, the Steelers, especially the Steelers, it feels like we’re outnumbered.
“But this definitely feels like we’re on the road.”
That was amusingly obvious to Patriots fans.
“This is a home game, it definitely feels that way,” said Harry Bears, who was dressed in his Patriots jersey. “There’s a lot of people named Brady here.”
Bill and Jessica Holmes came from Brockton, Mass. for their first Super Bowl and felt like there were back in Foxboro.
“We were at a Waffle House earlier and there was one person in the entire place with a Rams jersey,” Jessica said. “There was a news reporter in there and she said, ‘Are there any Rams fans here?'”
“It was crickets,” said Bill, who once had Tom Brady sign the upper part of his arm after they met in Mexico City. Bill has a photo to prove the moment and had the signature turned into a tattoo on his arm.
That’s not hard to understand given that the Rams are in only their third season after their return to Los Angeles from St. Louis. Rams fans from Los Angeles just don’t really exist in large numbers yet. That showed on Sunday.
