Is True Detective new tonight, Super Bowl Sunday? Find out is True Detective on tonight and if HBO has a new True Detective season 3 episode.
Is True Detective new tonight? Since Feb. 3 is Super Bowl Sunday, TV fans may be wondering if HBO is going to roll out a new episode of its critically acclaimed drama—or if they’ll skip tonight since everyone will be focused on the NFL‘s big game.
But if you’re a fan of the show, there’s nothing to worry about! HBO is proceeding as scheduled with the third season, in the regular 9 p.m. time slot. Tonight the season passes its halfway point with episode 5 of 8, and things are getting more and more complicated.
Sunday’s episode is called “If You Have Ghosts” and focuses on Wayne Hays (Mahershala Ali) as his investigation takes a potential turn for the worse. While he struggles with that, his home life suffers as well.
Amelia (Carmen Ejogo) has ambitions of starting her own career, and there’s some jealousy in the mix, too. But it’s a TV tradition that cops get obsessed with cases and that wrecks their personal lives, so this is just par for the course.
There’s one thing that viewers will want to take note of: Super Bowl LIII starts at 6:30 p.m. ET, and True Detective is scheduled to begin at its regular time of 9 p.m. So those fans on the East Coast who are planning on watching both should set your DVR. There’s only two and a half hours from kickoff to the start of the episode, and football games can run around three hours—more if you’re going to watch the post-game interviews, trophy presentation, and so on.
Viewers in other time zones should be fine, but don’t forget that there’s a new episode on tonight!
