DraftKings PGA: 2019 Pebble Beach Pro-AM Picks and Analysis
The DraftKings PGA: 2019 Pebble Beach Pro-AM Picks and Analysis
Rickie Fowler almost let another one slip away on a rain soaked Sunday in Scottsdale at the Waste Management. The crowds were out in force to will Fowler to his 5th career PGA victory. Brandon Grace showed that he is one of the best in-climate weather golfers in the world and almost pulled off an incredible comeback. But trouble on the 17th sank his ball and his hopes at a victory. Now, to Pebble Beach!
The Tour moves from the Arizona desert back to the California coast this week. We will get a major primer this week, with the Pebble Beach Pro-Am serving as a prelude to the 2019 US Open.
Unlike the US Open, three courses will be featured during this tournament. Two rounds will be played at Pebble Beach, one at Monterey Penninsula, and one at Spyglass Hills.
The three courses feature wide open fairways, tiny Poa greens, and a will play less than 7,000 yards. Monterey Peninsula typically plays the easiest, with Pebble playing around par, and Spyglass Hill playing over par.
The 2018 edition of the Pebble Beach Pro-AM saw Ted Potter Jr. hold off Dustin Johnson for his 2nd win. Potter finished at 17-under. Jordan Spieth won in 2017 at 19-under.
These courses typically favors bombers and ball-strikers who have solid short games. The greens are small, so if you can hit all of them you have a good chance at making putts. But, if you are missing the greens it is imperative to be able to get up and down. Being a Pro-AM, the greens are relatively slower than these pros are used to, and great putters can take advantage of that.

DraftKings PGA – Pebble Beach Picks
10,900 Jason Day
Day is the best Poa putter in the world. He loves this course, finishing with a 2nd, 5th, 11th and a 4th since 2015. Day is one of the best golfers in the world due to his putting excellence, and if his ball striking is above average this week he can take home the trophy.
8,900 Brandon Grace
Anytime the weather is poor, Grace is always in play. We saw it last week at the Waste Management. The final round was nasty and Grace was one of the few golfers to finish under par (and he almost won it). Grace finished 20th here last year, and you cannot argue with his recent form.
8,300 Rafa Cabrera Bello
RCB has self professed his love for this course. He said that Pebble is his favorite course in the world, posting a picture on social media of him golfing in the rain at Pebble. RCB finished 26th here last year, and is just the type of golfer I want, a solid ball striker and plus putter.
DraftKings PGA – Pebble Beach Values
7,500 Nick Watney
Nick Watney has made his last seven cuts this year, and his last three cuts at this tournament. That includes a second place finish in 2015. The Californian is playing some solid golf, and will look to extend his cuts made to 8 in 2019. The bomber is striking the ball excellently, he will just need to make some putts this week if he wants to contend.
7,300 Beau Hossler
This is too cheap for Hossler. He is one of the best short game golfers in this field, he is a California kid who is very familiar with this course, and he made the cut here last year. Hossler has made his last 2 cuts and his ball-striking is trending in the right direction.
7,100 Martin Laird
Party Marty is no stranger to difficult conditions. The veteran seems to play best when the tournament becomes a par-fest. Laird has only played this tournament once, missing the cut on the number in 2017. Laird has had a solid start to the 2019 season, making 5 out of 7 cuts, one top 10, and finishing 26th last week at the Waste Management.
