The Texas Longhorns are undoubtedly heading in the right direction under Tom Herman and their 2019 recruiting class will only help to solidify that.

How many times over the years have we heard that the Texas Longhorns are “back” only to watch them let everyone down? It feels like an annual tradition at this point and, at the start of 2018, it seemed like we were heading that way once again. Yet, Tom Herman and his team turned it around in a massive way to make the Big 12 Championship Game and get a big win over Georgia in their bowl game, a New Year’s Six game at that.

This is as close as Texas has been to actually being “back” in quite some time, but the key is to keep grinding to make that happen. Of course, that entails doing well on the recruiting trail, which Herman has done a good job with to this point in Austin. Having said that, his 2019 recruiting class is a further continuation of that.

After having the third-best class last year in the composite rankings, the Longhorns again come in with the No. 3 class in the country. Bolstering their class, without question, is 5-star athlete/wide receiver Bru McCoy, who they recently flipped from USC. McCoy is going to be a monster at the college level and could see time early on in his college career.

Meanwhile, McCoy is joined by another 5-star athlete in Jordan Whittington, who should also see time early on. After that, the Longhorns have a litter of 4-star recruits, three of which rank in the top 100 overall recruits. On top of that, they also have the 17th-best JUCO recruit in strongside defensive end Jacoby Jones, who could contribute to the defense early on.

With that, let’s look at the 2019 Texas recruiting class and hand out a grade for the job they’ve done.

Every Texas fan in the world has been waiting for the Longhorns to actually be back, and they appear actually on the precipice of that given their 2018 success and outlook moving forward. This 2019 recruiting class is a massive boom for them in that regard as it should give them both Day 1 contributors in Austin and also help the continue laying a foundation for the future.

Grade: A+
