5 NHL sellers that need to be stripped down for parts

2. Anaheim Ducks
As far as the standings go, the Anaheim Ducks don’t look so bad. They’re only three points out of the second Wild Card with plenty of time to go.
But as with the Blues and Kings, the Ducks just do not have enough to make a push should they even reach the playoffs. Their goal scoring is second worst ahead of Los Angeles and their goaltending is 21st.
That last fact isn’t so much a product of what netminder John Gibson is or isn’t doing, but that Anaheim surrenders the third most shots against per game. The biggest asset that the Ducks could likely dangle out there (aside from Gibson) would be their captain Ryan Getzlaf.
Unfortunately Getzlaf still has a couple of years to go on a big contract and he has a no movement clause. The name most mentioned around the water cooler is forward Jakob Silfverberg who has 12 goals and put up 40-plus points the two previous seasons.
Apparently the Ducks are trying to extend him—he’s a free agent come summer time—but would they really turn down a deal that nets them a healthy reward? Something to build on for the future, which is what they should be doing now anyway?
Anaheim could also trade away 24-year-old defenseman Brandon Montour. He’s a restricted free agent in two years and teams have shown interest. Cam Fowler has been linked to getting the boot, though that seems less likely as a team would have to take on a contract that doesn’t end until 2025.
