Former Colts punter Pat McAfee joins WWE as contributor
McAfee had been doing NXT pre-show panels and digital content, but now he’s a full-time contributor for the WWE.
Another former NFL player is now in the WWE family, though not as an in-ring competitor. Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee announced via Twitter on Thursday that he is now working with the Worldwide Leader, calling it “[a] real lifelong dream come true.” The WWE confirmed the hire on its website.
McAfee has been serving as a pre-show panelist for NXT: Takeover events since the New Orleans show in March. On a late December episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” on YouTube, McAfee said that the WWE had made him a multi-year offer
In addition to his work with NXT, McAfee had also been producing digital content for WWE. Though he served as a sideline reporter for FOX during the 2018 NFL season, pro wrestling is clearly one of McAfee’s biggest passions. And now it appears that WWE and NXT fans should look forward to seeing a lot more of him now that the ink is dry on the contract.
McAfee punted for the Colts from 2009 until 2016 and was a two-time Pro Bowler and was named a First Team All-Pro in 2014. He has often incorporated pro wrestling elements in his celebrations, such as this Razor Ramon impression after a great punt against the New York Jets in 2016:
