AEW Double or Nothing rally highlights include the arrival of Kenny Omega
All Elite Wrestling held a rally on Thursday night for their Double or Nothing event in May.
On Thursday night, Cody Rhodes and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) was in Las Vegas to hold a rally to unveil plans for their upcoming Double or Nothing event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. A lot of speculation has been going on regarding this event, the sequel to September’s All In show in Chicago, and a few questions were answered during the rally.
The pay per view event takes place on May 25, during Memorial Day Weekend. Conrad Thompson and Alex Marvez served as the hosts for the rally, preparing fans for the night’s festivities. The flamboyant Sonny Kiss made his way to the podium. He teased that he had some exciting news, and then made his intentions clear that he would be at Double or Nothing.
Moments later, Cody Rhodes (otherwise known simply as Cody) came to the podium. He then released some key details regarding upcoming event. He announced that in addition to partnering with Oriental Wrestling Entertainment (OWE), AEW has also entered into an agreement with the historical Mexican promotion known as AAA Wrestling. They are responsible for some of the best Lucha Libre wrestling in the business, and the fans in Las Vegas were excited to hear this news.
From there, Cody went on to talk about tickets to the event. He noted that there is a special presale event going on at the AEW website. If you sign up before February 10, you will receive a one-time passcode for pre-sale tickets on February 11. General public tickets will go on sale on February 13 at 11:00 A.M. Central. More details can be found on their website. The tickets will be sold through AXS.
It seemed as a few matches were set for Double or Nothing, as “Hangman” Adam Page challenged PAC (formerly known in WWE as Neville), making it the first confirmed bout for the show. The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, announced they would take on the Best Friends, the team of Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta. Christopher Daniels challenged Chinese star Shima to a six-man tag, with Shima being allowed to choose his own partners from OWE as Daniels will team with Kazarian and Scorpio Sky.
Also announced as part of AEW are the following:
- Scorpio Sky
- Christopher Daniels
- Frankie Kazarian
- Shima
- Japanese women’s wrestler Yuka Sakazaki
- Japanese women’s legend Aja Kong
- Kylie Rae, the current Freelance Wrestling champion
- Nyla Rose
Finally, the biggest announcement of the night came as former New Japan Pro Wrestling superstar Kenny Omega appeared in front of the live crowd. He explained why he wanted to get on board with AEW and why he was delayed (mostly the legal entanglements of the end of his New Japan contract). But before he could get too far, he was interrupted by an old enemy. The one and only Chris Jericho interrupted Omega, as he entered to his band Fozzy’s song “Judas.” The two started brawling and had to be pulled apart.
Will Omega and Jericho renew their international rivalry and go to war in Vegas on May 25? You have a chance to get your tickets and be a part of it live. AEW is shaping up to be well worth watching, and they have the world of pro wrestling on notice. Last year’s All In event was a success and based on the energy around Thursday’s rally, Double or Nothing looks set to surpass it.
