Bayern Munich face Schalke at Allianz Arena on Saturday, Feb. 9. Here’s all the info you need to watch online.
Last season Bayern Munich and Schalke finished first and second. This season has been a completely different story for both clubs ahead of their game Saturday at the Allianz Arena. Bayern are seven points behind Borussia Dortmund as they chase their seventh straight title. Schalke got off to a terrible start this season and sit 12th in the table.
Bayern started well against Bayer Leverkusen, holding a 1-0 halftime lead but Leverkusen controlled the second half, winning 3-1. The loss ended Bayern’s seven-game winning streak and will make winning the title again extremely difficult. Leon Goretzka continued his incredible form since the start of the new year. Goretzka has scored four goals in the last three games. Manuel Neuer was injured prior to the game against Leverkusen, forcing Sven Ulreich to start in his place. Neuer’s status for Saturday’s game against his former team is unclear. If Neuer cannot play, Ulreich will get his second straight start.
Schalke lost 2-0 to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend after keeper Alexander Nubel was sent off with a red card. Nubel is considered one of the best young keepers in Germany and has pushed captain Ralf Fahrmann to the bench. Domenico Tedesco’s team have struggled to recover since losing five straight games to open the season. One of the reasons that the Royal Blues have struggled this season has been their inability to find an effective striker. Mark Uth and Breel Embolo were signed in recent seasons to replace Klass Jan Huntelaar but have each scored only two goals this season. Rabbi Matondo was signed from Manchester City’s youth academy to give the club a boost in the second half. The 18-year-old is considered an extremely talented player who could have a similar impact as Jadon Sancho, who joined Borussia Dortmund from City’s youth academy in 2017.
