5. Darqueze Dennard, cornerback

As we’ve mentioned before, and as something that should come as no surprise, the Chiefs figure to add a whole lot to their defense heading into 2019. While they will likely look to take care of the pass rush through the draft rather than paying an arm and a leg for edge talent in free agency, one position group they could aggressively pursue through the free agent market is at cornerback.

Darqueze Dennard, a former first-round pick of the Bengals, is slated to hit the market for the first time in his career and Kansas City could be a good landing spot.

Dennard has served as a valuable member of the Bengals’ secondary since being drafted back in 2014 and though he doesn’t have much in the way of turnover production (three career interceptions), he’s versatile in both coverage and run support. He had a career year in 2017, showing enough promise that Cincy decided to pick up his fifth-year option, but now has the chance to choose where he’ll play in 2019.

Dennard wouldn’t be the splashiest move but could be a solid one, both as a value addition and a player who could help soften the potential loss of Steven Nelson in free agency.
