NFL Mock Draft: Where will Kyler Murray land?
Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray is committing to football, so where will the former Oklahoma quarterback fall in the NFL Draft?
After months of contemplating his future, Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is 100 percent committed to a professional football career and is giving up his MLB career with the Oakland A’s.
NFL executives are enamored with the skill-set of the reigning Heisman Trophy winner but the biggest concern they had was how committed he was to football. Now that he’s firmly cemented himself as a football prospect who will attend the NFL Combine later this month, the attention shifts to Murray’s potential NFL home. With a handful of teams in need of help at quarterback, Murray is one of the most tantalizing and intriguing prospects in this year’s class.
NFL Mock Draft: Murray commits to football
1. Arizona Cardinals – Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State
The Cardinals should try to trade down and acquire as many draft picks as possible to replenish a roster devoid of impact talent. If they stay at the top spot, Ohio State pass rusher Nick Bosa is the safest bet and a player who should have double-digit sacks for the next eight years.
2. San Francisco 49ers – Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
The 49ers have spent three first round picks on defensive linemen, but in a loaded class for defensive linemen, they can’t pass up the chance to take Josh Allen who had 17 sacks at Kentucky last year.
3. New York Jets – Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Quinnen Williams was the best defensive player in college last year and can be an immediate plug-and-play next to Leonard Williams on the Jets defensive line.
4. Oakland Raiders – Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
The Raiders have bigger needs than at quarterback, but with three first round picks after the trades of Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden can gamble a bit with one of their picks. Ideally, they’ll be able to move down a few picks and net additional mid-round picks, but in Kyler Murray, they get an electric dual-threat quarterback who brings excitement and hope to a franchise in desperate need of it. Gruden loved Russell Wilson coming out and Murray is built similarly, albeit slighter, but with more flair.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Rashan Gary, DT, Michigan
The Buccaneers might be moving on from Gerald McCoy. If they do, Rashan Gary can slide in at his defensive tackle spot and form a versatile 1-2 combo with last year’s first round pick, Vita Vea.
